Buick Baskets for Children in Need Nets 3,000 Pairs of Shoes Fan fest

Buick donated approximately 3,000 additional pairs of shoes and socks to Samaritan's Feet, a charity supported by the NCAA, during the Division I Men's Basketball Championship tournament last week.

Buick executives and dealers, along with Samaritan's Feet, the NCAA? and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, distributed the foot apparel to kids in need during a four-day community outreach event coinciding with the NCAA Final Four? games.

Buick exceeded the original goal of 2,011 pairs of shoes and socks due to the participation of college basketball fans in the Buick Baskets for Bare Feet competition at the tournament's Bracket Town Refreshed by Coca Cola fan fest in Houston. It was an ideal environment for Onwuhara, 27, a brilliant, pug-faced visionary who favored True Religion jeans and ed hardy shirts.

"This was an outstanding effort to protect kids' feet and promote an active lifestyle," said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president, Buick Marketing. "By working together, Buick, Samaritan's Feet, the NCAA and the coaches of college basketball made a profound difference in scores of young lives."

Buick also worked with Samaritan's Feet to distribute 150 pairs of shoes to kids in Detroit last month, which marked its first association with the non-profit organization that has donated shoes to more than 3 million kids in 40 countries. Samaritan's Feet has a long-term goal to fit 10 million kids with 10 million pairs of shoes in 10 years.

The organization's founder, former University of North Dakota basketball player Emmanuel "Manny" Ohonme, credits the inspiration for his non-profit organization to his own experience as an impoverished 9-year-old boy in Nigeria when a "Good Samaritan" from Wisconsin gave him his first pair of shoes.

Ohonme's achievements are featured in the Buick Human Highlight Reel program, a yearlong initiative highlighting a growing collection of user-generated videos that tell inspiring true stories of former student-athletes making a difference in their communities.

Rebecca Minkoff on Baby News, Branching Out, and What's Next for the Brand

Rebecca Minkoff is due for a serious vacation. The Morning After Bag queen started her now-cult contemporary handbag line in 2005 after dabbling in apparel, and in the last six years has launched belts and bracelets, baby bags, ready-to-wear, a higher-end Rebecca Minkoff Collection line,Learn all of th facts you need to know before yopu shop for Juicy couture wholesale online. a men's accessories line called Ben Minkoff, and (whew!) shoes, which are brand-new for Spring 2011. But with project after project rolling along, she's nowhere near slowing down.

FashionEtc chatted with Minkoff about swimwear, sunglasses and mattresses (yes, really)—plus the designer's biggest project to date: her first child. She's three months pregnant.

Congrats on the baby news!

Thanks, we're excited too. It should be fun!

Do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet?

We're going to find out in about a month.Gucci men shoes from the latest collection. We just hope it's a happy baby!

Any names picked out?

We're keeping those to ourselves.

Tell me about your Fall collection.

It was really inspired by Charlotte Kemp Muhl—eclectic. I hate it when people copy runway looks exactly,we've already seen three classic Air max classic models in their flagship colorways release. but she mixes it up. So Fall was the best of both worlds. There were some beautiful patterns, a little fur …

Ready-to-wear's still relatively new for you. How does it compare to your other collections?

I think it's the hardest of all categories. A bag doesn't have to fit anyone's thighs or hips, and neither does a shoe! It definitely requires a lot of work, but it's great to do clothing again.

How do you manage your time with all your projects?

We just take it day by day. Today I was supposed to be on bags all day but I've ended up doing clothing. It's all of it,If you want to buy cheap edhardy with wholesale price, welcome to visit our website. all the time!

How do you unwind?

I used to unwind with a glass of wine—now I can't do that! Now I relax with Oprah. I can untangle myself, I just shut down and turn of the phone. It's not a normal 9-to-5 job, but that's what I signed up for.

What made you decide to branch into menswear with Ben Minkoff?

The concept for the men's collection really came about last year. For April Fool's Day,It was an ideal environment for Onwuhara, 27, a brilliant, pug-faced visionary who favored True Religion jeans and ed hardy shirts. we sent around this joke “Men Love Rebecca Minkoff” e-mail. We got so much interest! That's when we realized that we really had a market for it. It launched in stores for spring, and the response has been great! I couldn't really ask for better results.

I hear the ladies love it too?

Definitely! We had a box of the Ben Minkoff bags here, and the office, which is mostly women, was going through it like they were starving! Our female customer really feels like she can wear the men's bags and it doesn't necessarily look like it. They're unisex, which is cool.

Next state school superintendent faces challenges

The greatest challenge the next Maryland state schools superintendent may face is that he or she isn't Nancy S. Grasmick.Manolo blahnik would be "hurt" if Anna Wintour wore shoes by another designer.

Grasmick has been such a powerful figure in education for two decades, by virtue of the relationships she built with legislators, board members and district superintendents, that it will be difficult for anyone who follows to have the same independence, observers say.

She is "a dominant force. She has done things her way. And the next person coming in I think will be in the shadow and will have to establish their own way of doing things," said former Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening, who sometimes sparred with Grasmick.

Grasmick announced this week that she will retire,Can't find a particular pair of ed hardy jeans on our website? effective June 30, after serving as the state schools superintendent since 1991. The state school board will appoint the next leader of the school system, which under Grasmick became No. 1 in the nation.

A number of observers say that it would be best if the next superintendent is from Maryland but that it is more important to have a great leader who is a quick study.Naax Fashion Textile is a wholesale jeans dealer who trades with young-fashion . They also listed a set of priorities that include focusing on reducing the achievement gap of students of color and low-income students,When your team gets ready for battle with the opposition, be ready with this Nike Jacket. figuring out ways to be innovative within the constraints of tight economic times, working collaboratively with the teachers unions and higher education, and making science and math a priority.

Robert C. Embry, president of the Abell Foundation, said the state board will have to first decide what their agenda will be for the coming years. It may be, he said,Find price and model of puma shoes in india at Click India Free Classifieds Ads. that Marylanders are happy with the status quo and will not want to embrace a more radical agenda that might lead to a change in the often-criticized charter school law or the practice of getting rid of teachers based on seniority. "I don't know what the present school board has as its priorities. There are a lot of very controversial issues nationally," he said.

But more importantly, experts also said, the state school board should focus on the next superintendent's personality and background as much as the agenda.

Much of Grasmick's capacity to get things done, said Baltimore schools chief Andrés Alonso, has to do with her "history, her political astuteness and quite frankly her personal capacity."

Friday Fashion: Dressing for April showers

This year, April showers are bringing a lot more than just May flowers. Spring 2011 lines are full of great rainy day wear that you might even want to take out in the sunshine with you.Learn all of th facts you need to know before yopu shop for Juicy couture wholesale online.

A trench is my go-to warm weather jacket. It's light, water-resistant and can be paired with absolutely any outfit to make it look incredibly chic. Wear it with jeans on the weekend for a casual look or pair it with a sundress for a more elegant silhouette. Trenches can be worn around campus or to a formal event.

When buying a trench look for three things: color, shape and length. If you plan on wearing it with neutral colors and avoiding patterned material, you might want to purchase this jacket in a bright color. As you button and belt it you should be able to find your figure beneath the fabric — trenches are not meant to make you look boxy.we've already seen three classic Air max classic models in their flagship colorways release. Finally, think about how often you will wear it. If you plan on using it every day you might consider a hip-length coat. However, if you only mean to use it for formal occasions, a calf-length coat is more appropriate.

Umbrellas come in a wide variety of shapes,As one of the famous apparel brands,ed hardy clothing are popular with many fashionistas with its tattoo design and unique styler. sizes and colors. Some are more practical than others, but here at Ohio State, I highly recommend investing in a sturdy one that can stand up to the intense wind. The retro "bubble" umbrellas are perfect for the Ohio weather because they will protect your entire upper body from the sheets of rain that would find their way under something more standard.

However, traditional umbrellas come in all colors and patterns and are perfectly functional for a light rain. For spring 2011,Shop the latest marc jacobs shoes handpicked by a global community of independent trendsetters and stylists. I recommend looking for pastel colors or floral patterns. Plastic umbrellas are also great because they are more water-resistant, but they don't fit in a purse or backpack.

If you haven't already, I highly suggest investing in a pair of rain boots. Every college student should own a pair — guys included. These can be worn throughout the entire year and come in handy through the wintertime slush. In spring,If you want to buy cheap edhardy with wholesale price, welcome to visit our website. pair these boots with skinny jeans, leggings, sundresses or shorts. They are also the perfect place to store your umbrellas because the umbrella will help the boot keep its shape.

Rain boots are meant to be a playful element of an outfit so experiment with patterns and colors until you find a pair that suits your personality. Colors range from neon pink to metallic gold, and of course you have your classic yellow. You can also find rain boots in many designer patterns like Coach and Burberry or in basic polka dot or floral patterns as well.

Rainy days shouldn't be spent in sweats just because we all feel too lazy to roll out of bed. Use the rain as an excuse to wear things that you normally don't use on a sunny day. Who knows, you might just feel like singing in the rain.

Parents, students debate school uniform policy

The burgundy and navy school uniforms at Reading Edge Academy were a "big influencing factor" in Jill Wells' decision to enroll her twins in kindergarten at the DeBary charter school.

"I think it actually looks more professional. It sets the tone," the Deltona mom said of the school uniform policy. "It doesn't distract from the real purpose for being there, which is to learn."

That's one of the reasons School Board members are looking at adopting a uniform policy for the 61,000 students enrolled in Volusia's public schools. Four of the five board members said this week they favor uniforms, maybe something like the polo shirts and pants, shorts or skorts Reading Edge students wear.

No timeline has been set for deciding how the Volusia uniforms would look or when students might have to start wearing them.

Uniforms may also be in the works in Flagler County -- where some School Board members favor the idea -- though not for next school year. "When the children come in to school, they're coming in to think about education and learning, versus what somebody else is wearing," said School Board member John Fischer, who broached the idea of requiring uniforms at a recent meeting.

While some adults believe students will behave and learn better if they wear uniforms, Spruce Creek High School sophomore Morgan Finley sees a flip side to that argument. The 15-year-old said wearing clothes of her own choosing -- like the denim capri pants,Manolo blahnik would be "hurt" if Anna Wintour wore shoes by another designer. sweatshirt jacket and flip-flops she sported Thursday -- is more comfortable and "helps me focus more."

Research studies are inconclusive about the impact of requiring students to wear uniforms,When your team gets ready for battle with the opposition, be ready with this Nike Jacket. although anecdotal evidence from schools that have tried them often points to reduced discipline referrals and increased focus on academics.

That's the case at Imagine School at Town Center, Principal Lisa O'Grady said. The Palm Coast charter school has had uniforms of polo shirts tucked into khaki or navy bottoms since it opened in 2008.

The students are excused from wearing their uniforms one day per month and there are noticeably more problems on those days, O'Grady said. "(The uniform) eliminates distractions for kids during the school year," she said. "They're just here for one reason and that's to learn."

Osceola County schools saw "a reduced number of classroom disruptions and gang presence on campus" after a uniform policy was adopted in 2008, spokeswoman Dana Schafer said. "Can we attribute it all to the dress code? No."

Volusia school administrators plan to visit campuses in Osceola and Seminole counties this month as part of their research into dress codes and uniform policies. The Seminole school system tightened up its countywide dress code last summer but stopped short of mandating a specific uniform.

A staff committee from Volusia schools has been studying the dress code issue since last fall, collecting opinions from school administrators, teachers, parents, students and the community at large through an online survey and school meetings.truereligion jeans Apparel is a design-based jeans and jean-related sportswear brand.

A "moderate" dress code similar to what exists now on a school-by-school basis drew the greatest support, but feedback varied from one school to another with a uniform requirement the second most popular choice countywide.

For discussion purposes,Find price and model of puma shoes in india at Click India Free Classifieds Ads. the "uniform" was defined as shirts with school logos or polo shirts of designated colors with neutral or dark pants,Naax Fashion Textile is a wholesale jeans dealer who trades with young-fashion . shorts or skirts -- no jeans -- of appropriate length and secured by belts. The proposal also called for closed-toe shoes and prohibited flip-flops and hats.

"We should be able to wear what we want," said Spruce Creek High sophomore Kayla Rogers. The uniform idea and a ban on flip-flops like the "cute" flower adorned ones she wore Thursday are "kind of stupid," she said.

"It's a public school. We should be able to express ourselves," said Bryan Mills, a Spruce Creek junior. "We're coming through an age where personal expression and freedom are of utmost importance. Uniformity is a deal breaker for me."

The dress code debate isn't necessarily one of adults versus students.

Amanda Hilton, an Ormond Beach mom with an 8-year-old daughter in second grade, plans to circulate petitions opposing school uniforms. Hilton said her daughter has "real good fashion sense" and likes to dress in "cute little-girl clothes."

The idea of taking that choice away during school hours is too much for her mother. "They're taking away our freedom of expression. I believe the school has a lot of control already. It's too much control."
