Four Lindsay residents suspected of commercial burglary

Porterville police arrested four Lindsay residents Tuesday evening for allegedly stealing $200 worth of clothing from Kohl’s.

According to the Porterville Police Department, Kohl’s loss prevention employees watched as three women — Savannah Oviedo, 18, Monique Garcia, 29, and Amanda Torres, 28 — took several items of clothing from the store and then got into a car parked in the store’s parking lot at 1375 W. It's time to bag the ridiculous bag tax

“A bagman is a person designated to collect money” — Wikipedia

Rob Ford has got this mayor’s job in the bag and everybody around him knows it.

This is why before the middle of 2011 Toronto’s insane five-cent plastic bag tax will go the way of the vehicle registration tax into extinction.

You know it, they know it, and he knows it.

It’s going to happen because this mayor is not a bagman. He is the exact opposite. He wants to give people their money back — in plastic bags full of it if he could.

Ford knows more than anybody this outrageous, unnecessary and ineffective initiative was nothing but environmentally correct window-dressing to gain green kudos for former Mayor David Miller.

He also knows it has done nothing but shake more money out of peoples’ pockets and make their lives more difficult.

But what is very interesting is the mayor is not ramming his agenda down the city’s throat the way the five-cent charge was originally dropped on us in 2009.Designer fashion is the first stop for most shoppers but the biggest-selling item was expected to be business ed hardy shirts. Instead he’s letting the people, and those on council, decide.

There will be debate on this. Imagine that!

“If 90% of the people want to keep it, we will keep it,We then bought checked lungis from railway stations to make the shirts' plackets and mens hoodies.” the mayor said in an interview Thursday.

But if they don’t, he will push that it be scrapped.

I made the point to the mayor “why wait?” The tax is insulting, unfair and stupid. How can stores charge for bags in the name of the environment when most of the stuff in the bags is wrapped in plastic?

And where the hell does that money really go?

“I agree,” he told me. “I am personally not in favour of it but I want the feedback from the councillors and the constituents.”

So much for the bull in a china shop label people try to stick to him. His approach is brilliant because as my colleague Don Peat reminded me, there are far bigger battles ahead where he will need to use the hammer and all of his political capital. The budget and upcoming labour negotiations are areas where you need to use all your ammunition and not a goofy five-cent bag charge.

He knows common sense will prevail without him spouting off about it. But is smartly steering it with this approach.

On this one he’s going to be tough to beat because this tax is not about making the city green as much as punishment of capitalism.

So many small businesses have told me they are tired of getting into arguments with people they ask if they want a bag with their 10 items?

Of course they do. And of course they should not be charged for it.

As the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous says: “Half measures availed us nothing.”

If plastic bags are a real problem, governments should ban them outright — same goes for cigarettes, you can be at your dapper best. Pair your truereligion jeans with its jackets and hoodies or T-shirt. booze and gambling.

Instead, they just grab their piece of it.

Of course the biggest myth around is that it takes 1,The Warriors wore coach shoes and green socks Saturday, their way of showing the Christmas spirit.000 years for plastic bags to decompose and because of that somehow paying five cents for one makes you some sort of environmental crusader.

What you hardly ever hear about is how Waterloo teen science genius Daniel Burd used yeast, water and landfill dirt and made plastic bags disintegrate in about three months.

Where’s his environmental award?

It’s up to you folks. If you want to get rid of this tax, call your councillor.

Ford told me if there is a will to remove this tax, it could happen as early as this coming spring.

In the meantime bylaw officers should stop forcing businesses to play bagman with this ridiculous five-cent hustle.Best place to buy replica burberry bags,

Edwards resident worked as an extra in ‘True Grit'

On Friday night, Heather Keller got a glimpse of herself on the silver screen for the first time. The Edwards resident was an extra in the new Coen brothers film “True Grit,” which is playing locally at Riverwalk Theatre in Edwards.

Last March Keller was living with her family — husband Kirk, and children Curtis, 13, and Kaitlin, 11 — in Kerrville, Texas, marking some of the most interesting puma shoes on the market. where her husband previously managed the local television station.

“The casting director for the movie called the television station where my husband worked and asked for extras,” Keller said. There's nothing like a little Manolo blahnik goodness in time for the holidays, you know what I'm saying?

Keller said she wanted her kids to have a chance to take part in the film, so she agreed. Unfortunately her children didn't have the look the film producers were searching for — ”they wanted kids that looked thin and frail,” she said — but Keller herself made the cut, along with roughly 500 other people. She spent five days in Granger, Texas wearing an 18th century-style dress with a hoop skirt, leather gloves, a black wool cape and a hat, looking the part of a “townsperson” in the winter, even though it was plenty warm the days they filmed.

“It was very hot. There were days I would stand there and take my gloves and jacket off when they weren't filming,” she said, mentioning that one woman fainted from the heat. “The third day I had to change out the gloves I had on because they had melted into my fingers it got so hot standing there.”

Sometimes they would spend an entire 12-hour day filming a 2-to-5 minutes scene, Keller said.you can be at your dapper best. Pair your truereligion jeans with its jackets and hoodies or T-shirt.

It was Keller's first time working as a film extra, and she was paid $9.50 an hour, she said. In all, she is in four scenes of the movie, all of which can be seen in the first 15 minutes of the film.

‘My mom's in this movie!'
The movie opened locally on Christmas Eve and Keller and her family watched it at Riverwalk Theatre in Edwards.

“My husband told them I was in the movie so I got to see it for free,A comeback is what the Nike Air max 2009 Plus deserves with the new technology it achieved.” she said. “I was excited and the kids were excited. Right before it started my daughter yelled ‘My mom's in this movie!' I was embarassed but that's OK.”

Keller admits she was hoping to see herself on the screen.

“I thought, I just want to see myself one time for all those hours I put in,” she said.

And indeed she did.

“I saw myself several times, in all four scenes I took part in,” she said.

The movie stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld. Keller met Steinfeld as well as Bridges, she said.

“We were leaving one day. It's bad to be compared to a Hall of Famer with jordan 6 rings. They were shuttling all of the extras down the street to the bus and Jeff Bridges got out of one of the buses. He waved at all of us and said hello,” Keller said.

Keller's husband accepted a job as the general manager of TV8 and the family moved to Edwards in August. When people find out she was an extra in the film, they inevitably ask how they too can be an extra in a movie. She tells them what her casting director mentioned last spring

“You take snapshots of your face, height, all your stats and tell them if you want to be in a movie close by and they send you e-mails when parts become available,” Keller said.

Mansfield Brass Quintet spreads holiday cheer

Under the soft yellow glow from the turn-of-the-century street lamps in this quaint English-style village, the Mansfield Brass Quintet spreads warm holiday melodies through the frigid night air.

“It’s fun and the neighbors seem to enjoy it,” says Del Rossi, wearing a red Santa hat and matching crimson gloves.
In addition to Del Rossi, the group features Ginny Lockwood, also on trumpet, Larry DiPietro on trombone, Brenda Rich on French horn and Laura Wooden on tuba. Del Rossi’s friend Mike Spinelli also came out for the special event and played tuba.

Once they heard the festive sound of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells,” many curious neighbors grabbed their coats and shoes and stepped out onto their front porches.
Bundled up in her winter jacket, Dena Lyons and her husband Jim happily listened to the music along with their neighbors.
“This is a great neighborhood, very diverse,” says Dena Lyons, an eight-year resident of Gladstone Manor.

Celebrity tots and teens embrace tomboy trend

The choppy-coifed Shiloh Jolie-Pitt isn't the only celebrity daughter going for less-than-girlie gear these days. Forget Suri Cruise's purple ruffles and kitten heels: For the smallest of female stars, now it's about camo cargos and combat boots.

"These child celebrities are reflecting the mood of regular girls," says Khalym Schell, children's editor at trend-tracking firm Stylesight. "Over the last decade, we've seen the participation of girls in sports like soccer and skateboarding skyrocket and that's a testament to the average girl becoming more blue than pink."

As a result, retailers are offering more tomboy togs, launching unisex lines and highlighting girl-friendly pieces from their boys' collections. Madonna and Lourdes Leon's Material Girl line at Macy's is stocked with boxy blazers, plaid shirts and baseball tees.

Tenorio: Stuck inside this winter, you might try a treadmill

Question: How do you pick up those frequent-runner miles when you're stuck inside in a snowstorm?
Answer: On a treadmill, of course!
Sticking out the Blizzard of 2010 inside a Holiday Inn in Danbury, Conn., there wasn't much to do except track the weather on TV and shovel the car off. Luckily, the hotel has a gym.I chose the hogan scarpe for winter 2011 that would prefer to have the foot on New Year but also during a day of shopping with friends.
On Monday afternoon, my girlfriend and I went downstairs to the gym. She tried the elliptical machine, while I went on one of the two treadmills for my first time ever. The result: about three miles of stationary running.
There were some things to get used to. Instead of moving my arms back and forth when running, I had to grip the bar on the machine (at least for the first two miles; then I slowed down the pace and was able to run in place while moving my arms and not losing balance). Through trial and error, I had to figure out a speed that felt right. And once the run was over, the room seemed to swim around me, albeit briefly.
I can see some positives to running on a treadmill.Mackenzie is the photographer, and the one who wears a baseball cap turned backward. Meredith is the music major. For people who love statistics, the numbers are right there in front of you. Not only could I gauge my mile count, I could also tell how many calories I burned (about 300) and how much time it took (don't ask). If I wanted to challenge myself, I could press a button to make the machine speed up ... and if the sweat and my left knee were telling me to slow down, well, I could press another button and do that, too. Once it was over, I could get a cup of water and a running magazine and relax. And thanks to technology, a storm that shuts down airports, subway stations and roads can't keep runners from running.
Did anyone get some good running-related holiday gifts? I was happy to find a GNC pedometer in my "stash" this year courtesy of my girlfriend.
In previous months ofNo matter how much money you give him, Smith can always make a movie look like a cheap true religion piece of crap. running, I had to use other ways of assessing how many miles I'd run.dressed in all black, love kills slowly crossing the floor with a furrowed brow, wielding an all-wood axe. Well, I ran from the sign to the Russell HousThere's nothing like a little Manolo blahnik goodness in time for the holidays, you know what I'm saying?e one day and knew I'd done 1.6 miles.
Along the Minuteman Bikeway in Cambridge there are also helpful signs that indicate how far it is from, say, the Alewife MBTA station area to Harvard Square. And not far from Lime Rickey's restaurant in Swampscott, I was delighted to see mile markers on the pavement.
That said, though, I'm looking forward to the day when I can attach the pedometer to my jacket or running pants and have a more scientific way of tracking distance. Here's hoping the snow gets cleared away soon.
I was sorry to hear that Swampscott High track coach Dom Finelli has stepped down from his position due to a disagreement over coaching salaries.
I don't know all the particulars about the issue, but one thing I can say is that Finelli worked very hard to share the accomplishments of his Big Blue teams with the larger community. His dedication will be missed.

Here's what area retailers had to say about the season and what they might do differently next year:

The skate, surf and snow store saw one of its best holiday seasons in years, said Levi Palmer, assistant manager of the Alternative Sports.

The store sold plenty of stocking-stuffer items such as beanies, skate wax and socks.

People came to the store in droves, Palmer said, making it crowded and hectic at times. The experience taught him to be patient with customers.

"You get a little frazzled," he said.

The store profited from a late rush the Thursday and Friday before Christmas, said owner Earl Williams, even though customer traffic in previous years had been steadier between Black Friday and the holiday. This year's sales figures probably decreased since last year, he said.

In the future, Cole said she plans to stock additional inventory, advertise more and offer more coupons.

Beer ingredient kits proved to be particularly popular this year, Stoppard said. The store saw an increase in holiday business this year, its second since moving to the township from Manchester.

Giving it socks

2010 brought with it some weird and wonderful research, including whether socks over shoes stop you slipping on ice, writes CLAIRE O'CONNELL

THE YEAR 2010 will be remembered for many things, not all of them wonderful. In the future, that particular edition of Reeling in the Years will probably have us throwing things at the television – or whatever gizmo we are watching it on by then.

But while volcanic ash was grounding flights and filling ferries, and national economies were reeling and rallying, there were a few health stories to distract us and either lighten the mood or make us stop and think.

Making us laugh and then think is the aim of the annual Ig Nobel prizes, always a rich hunting ground for the more bizarre stories. This year was no exception, with several odd-sounding studies in the winners’ enclosure,The Warriors wore coach shoes and green socks Saturday, their way of showing the Christmas spirit. including the effects of rollercoaster rides on asthma, swearing as a response to pain, and the potential for men working in microbiological labs to harbour hazards in their beards. We then bought checked lungis from railway stations to make the shirts' plackets and mens hoodies.

The winner of the physics title was a study in New Zealand to see whether wearing your socks over your shoes could improve traction on icy footpaths, and help prevent falls.

The study of 30 pedestrians walking downhill on icy paths took place in Dunedin, a town on South Island that quite fancies itself as being Scottish and has the hills and winter chills to stake that claim.

“In winter, damp weather followed by freezing conditions can transform a quick journey to work into a lengthy and perilous expedition,” wrote the researchers in the 2009 New Zealand Medial Journal paper that scooped them the Ig Nobel prize earlier this year.

The local council in Dunedin had advised residents to wear socks over shoes in icy weather to increase grip. But the scientists were perplexed by the lack of evidence for the practice’s effectiveness and sought “to remedy this surprising gap in falls prevention research” with a randomised controlled trial.

For practical – and possibly legal – reasons the study decided not to use Baldwin Street, billed as the world’s steepest. Instead they opted for commonly used routes that they knew from painful experience could be slippery in icy conditions.

Passing pedestrians were recruited and asked to either brave the sloping path in their regular footwear or else don a pair of socks in Superman “underwear as outerwear” style over their shoes.

“The acrylic-blend work socks [size 11–14] were purchased in bulk from a budget department store using independent research funds,” state the University of Otago researchers, soberly.

Participants were timed and observed as they walked downhill – any slipping,I've bought 20 burberry bags. What do they think I'm doing with them ? falling, clinging to stationary objects or crawling were to be recorded by outcome assessors – and the pedestrians were also asked to rate the experience themselves.Designer fashion is the first stop for most shoppers but the biggest-selling item was expected to be business ed hardy shirts.

So what did they find? Yes, the sock-over-shoe trick does seem to improve the going in icy conditions, but the socks need to be properly fitted to avoid tripping.

And to reassure against any improper links, the authors stated there were no known competing interests to declare: “In particular, none of the authors has financial links with sock manufacturers and none of us own sheep.you can be at your dapper best. Pair your truereligion jeans with its jackets and hoodies or T-shirt.”

The Aspen Institute's Futile Middle East Initiatives

The basic premise of the Aspen Institute's well-intentioned initiatives in the Middle East is that economic development on the West Bank (the area controlled by Mahmoud Abbas and his organization, Fatah) is the key to success in the ongoing peace negotiations. It is supposed that this effort will bring jobs, income, a positive-initiative multiplier effect, and a reduction in despair. The institute is counting on this effort to be a breakthrough success in the region. This, in turn, according to the institute's thinking, will create a path toward "peace."

However, despite many indications of the true, underlying fundamental roadblock to progress for peace, these idealists (representing the American and Western discounting of hard realities) insist that it is economic opportunities that can create new visions and change conditions in the region. I respectfully disagree.Wearing a nicely Nike air max tn with a reputed brand name printed on it is surely going to compel most of your fellows to adore your sense of fashion and style Further, the Aspen Institute, while attempting to express "all points of view," systematically exhibits biases against a full airing of the issues in the public forums organized by it for public consumption.

The blockage to peace in the region is based upon not economics, but instead an intractable religious ideology of a nihilistic form of Islam -- and a point of view rarely, if ever, expressed in the idyllic location of Aspen, CO. The ideologues of the Institute -- an otherwise marvelous organization doing wonderful work worldwide -- categorically refuse to process information that would shine the light on other points of view in this intractable conflict.opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system. The result is a perpetuation of conflict and a total waste of valuable resources funded by trustees and fellows of the institute.

The underlying fact is that the Palestinian leadership -- whether Fatah in the West Bank or Hamas in Gaza -- refuses to accept anything other than a Muslim-controlled entity where Israel now stands. This is why regardless of the faction and how "peaceful" they claim to be, their logos show all of Israel as incorporated into the future Palestinian state. They all envision the dismantling of the State of Israel. This, in effect, will wipe out Israel as the only Jewish state in the world. (There are well over 45 Muslim majority-controlled states in the world, and many Christian states, too.) Implementation of the "right of return" -- in essence, permitting millions of "refugees" (grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren of the original refugees) is a surefire demographic time bomb that will alter the electorate in Israel and result in the destruction of all the political and economic structures put in place since Israeli independence in 1948.

(Frankly, the issues and the proposed solution would be no different if it were not Jews,“Christian and she were laughing as she tried on ed hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” said the Ed Hardy rep. but instead Christians, Hindus, or Buddhists who controlled the land area known as "Israel." The ummah [the Arab community or "street"], headed by virulent authoritarian leadership, will not accept anything other than an authority dedicated to the restoration of the Muslim caliphate and the imposition of Sharia law -- inherently non-democratic, anti-feminist, anti-gay...and anti-American.)

As to legitimacy, Israel is no less legitimate than many other national entities in the region. As a brief historical review, the British installed a Saudi tribe -- the Hashemites -- in the area known as Transjordan after the Supreme Allied Powers carved up the Middle East during the 1920s. The Hashemites lost a tribal war with the House of Saud (1922) over control of the Muslim holy places in Medina and Mecca. Almost 80% of the British Mandate promised for a Jewish Homeland through the Balfour Declaration (1917) was removed from the intended land designation in one swoop following the San Remo Conference in Italy after WWI. Jordan today controls the largest "Palestinian" population in the world, yet Jordan is threatened by destabilizing factors instigated by radial jihadists.

Aspen will be honored to host Jordan's King Abdullah in a return visit to the Aspen Institute during the summer of 2011. Never mentioned in any of the publicity pieces put out by the kingdom or the Aspen Institute is the fact that the forces that assassinated Abdullah's great grandfather (his namesake) in front of the Al Aqsa mosque in 1953 and almost killed his father (King Hussein of Jordan) are alive and well in Egypt today (the Islamic Brotherhood, or "Ichwhan"). They stand ready to subvert any and all reductions in confrontations between Arab states and the West. They killed Anwar Sadat in their attempts to destroy the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. They have indicated their desire to promote more violence once they are unleashed as a political force after the death of Egyptian President Mubarak's death (expected in 2011).

King Abdullah's lecture in 2008 blamed Israel for the difficulties in the region. So did the Palestinian Foreign Minister Salem Fayyad, who spoke in 2010 in Aspen. The latter made peaceful overtures to the Aspen crowd and to questioners (such as former CIA Director Jim Woolsey). However, words spoken in English in Aspen have little impact in moderating the incendiary words spoken back home in Arabic. This point is not lost on our invitees -- just on the attendees, who ingratiate themselves in the presence of such political influence.

Gonzalez, 78, of Cincinnati, is one of 86 nuns from various Roman Catholic orders around the United States and Canada who took part in the latest edition of Nuns Build. The program, begun in 2009, brings nuns to New Orleans twice a year to help rebuild houses flooded by Katrina in 2005, but are structurally sound and can be renovated.

There are still thousands of the houses in the metropolitan area. Many were owned by elderly or poor people without flood insurance and left with no means of reclaiming their homes.

The sisters finished up their stay working at Patricia Gardner's home in the Gentilly section of New Orleans. The house, which was flooded to the roof by the failure of the city's levees following Katrina, was gutted when they arrived. By the time they left at the end of the week,Wearing a nicely Nike air max tn with a reputed brand name printed on it is surely going to compel most of your fellows to adore your sense of fashion and style the house had been completely insulated and ceilings and walls covered with dry wall.

"It will be one of our 'Homes for the Holidays' houses," said Amanda Catalani of the St. Bernard Project, said. The agency is working to have 25 houses restored in time for families to return to them before Christmas. A group of volunteers will pick up where the nuns left off at the end of their stay.

"It's doable, definitely doable," Catalani said. "We could use more volunteers, but we have 13 done so we believe we will get them all done."

The nuns working on Gardner's house ranged in age from 62 to 78. All acknowledged that when they entered their orders as young women they would never have imagined themselves involved in such a project.

Every nun working in the house wore full habits when they took orders.

"We were all in the penguin suits,It is needless to say that most of us have at least two or three such items which we usually wear with wholesale jeans or trousers." said Sister Luke Boiarski, 62, of Nazareth, Kentucky, who was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans for the manual labour.

The voluminous habits with the starched wimples and veils were never questioned, said Sister Joyce Richter, 76, a teacher who now works in information technology and builds websites.

"We just thought 'This is our life,'" Richter said. "But over the years the changes have been drastic. It's been very freeing to put the habits away. I can't imagine us taking on something like this wearing them."

The nuns learned their construction skills on the job, they said.

"This is the first time I did this in my life," said Anita Gagnon, 75, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, as she helped put wall board on a bathroom ceiling.“Christian and she were laughing as she tried on ed hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” said the Ed Hardy rep. Is It Time To Start Rethinking "The Decision"?

Following the Miami Heat's blowout of the Los Angeles Lakers,Manolo blahnik has taken a sexy new stiletto heel to such a dangerous new. Magic Johnson had some surprising words regarding LeBron James, his "Decision" and his status among the league's best basketball players. As I remember it,It is needless to say that most of us have at least two or three such items which we usually wear with wholesale jeans or trousers. (so it might not be 100 percent accurate) Johnson stated that whatever you think about "The Decision" or how he made it, James was still the league's MVP.

He went on to say that LeBron had come in to win, and essentially Kobe Bryant let him; that Kobe's statements about this being "just another game" led the team to feel the same way, and that was a big part of the reason the team lost. In other words, LeBron led his team to victory, and Kobe led his team to ambivalence.

Now if this were just anyone saying it, it might be one thing, but this was Magic Johnson—the former Laker, the leader of showtime, this is the new jordan 6 rings Carmelo Anthony PE.Yesterday morning I rose at the break of dawn for the famed Christian Louboutin press sample sale! arguably the greatest point guard of all time,“Christian and she were laughing as she tried on ed hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” said the Ed Hardy rep. and in many ways over the last dozen years, one of the biggest fans and promoters of Kobe Bryant.

It's not hard to see the difference in their games form a statistical standpoint. While Kobe scored 17 points, seven assists and six rebounds, shooting a somewhat less than lights out 6-for-16 from the field; James had 27 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds on a triple-double, while taking four steals on 8-for-14 from the field. LeBron also had only one turnover compared to four by Bryant. In short, James completely outplayed Kobe in this game.

Now, I know, it's only one game, but consider the following details. Here are their numbers since LeBron came into the league. The leader is in boldface in each category.

Police bust alleged counterfeit sports clothing operation

Police arrested a suburban man with more than $1 million worth of counterfited sports clothing and equipment for manufacturing and distributing, said the Cook County Sheriff's Department Thursday.

Thousands of sweatshirts, T-shirts, jerseys and hats embroidered with counterfeit logos of the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks and other popular brand were seized, making it the largest seizure of its kind by the Cook County Sheriff's vice unit in recent years, officials said.

Joseph Kim,Wearing a nicely Nike air max tn with a reputed brand name printed on it is surely going to compel most of your fellows to adore your sense of fashion and style 27, of Riverwoods, is charged with possession of more than 2,000 counterfeit items and manufacturing counterfeit items, opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system. both felonies.

More than $650,000 in counterfeit merchandise and $400,000 in equipment was seized by police this week, officials said. Investigators said they found most of the counterfeit apparel boxed and ready to be shipped from Kim's headquarters on the 4500-block of West Fillmore Street in Chicago.

In the three-story warehouse Kim operated, police said they seized eight embroidery machines, valued at around $50,000 each. Also seized were more than 10,000 items of counterfeit clothing -- more than half of which had Chicago Bears and other NFL logos on them.

Also among the counterfeit stash were more than 1,000 fraudulent Fox Racing items and hundreds more pieces of merchandise with Harley Davidson, Hurley, Tapout and Nike logos, among others, affixed to them, police said.

When the warehouse was raided on Monday, eight employees were mass-producing near-replica Bears logos onto cheap winter hats, officials said.

Police said they began investigating Kim in October, after receiving information about hundreds of fraudulent T-shirts being sold at a major out-of-state flea market. Officers were able to determine the items were being produced by "Joe Kim Embroidery," based in Chicago.Holiday shoppers hoping to get a good deal on upscale Ugg boots or burberry bags at Rice's Market in Solebury were disappointed Tuesday morning. Undercover officers then arranged to make multiple purchases of counterfeit merchandise directly from Kim, police said.

Kim owns a legitimate logo and embroidery business -- Asian American Industrial Alliance -- and used that as cover for his illegal operation, investigators learned. AAIA holds several legitimate public and private contracts for printing services, but the vast majority of his business was dedicated to counterfeit operations, as he sold sweatshirts for $8 to $12 each, police said. Legitimate versions normally retail for around $50 each.Police say a youth in a white baseball cap pulled out a large knife and threatened to stab the man.One of the attackers was wearing navy or black Nike Jacket and a hat with ear flaps.

Kim reportedly told investigators he could embroider nearly any trademark requested, and among the items confiscated were computer discs with countless professional and college athletic logos, as well as major clothing brands.

After he was taken into custody, Kim admitted to investigators that he sold counterfeit items, but claimed most had already been produced and were left over from when his father ran the embroidery business before him, officials said. Kim's father was arrested more than 10 years ago in an unrelated Sheriff's investigation into counterfeit merchandising.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, Kim's bond was set at $25,000. He posted the required 10-percent of that amount and will remain free while awaiting trial. His next court date is set for Tuesday.

Paul Simon's Songs, The Movie

Paul Simon's Songs, The Movie
Paul Simon isn't the flashiest of musicians, and is rarely in the news. He's not a former Beatle, he doesn't rock cool sunglasses, and he doesn't get cameos in Pirates of the Caribbean movies. But he's been making some small headlines thanks to hanging out with Oprah in Australia, and for giving his new Christmas song, "Getting Ready For Christmas Day," away for free.“Christian and she were laughing as she tried on ed hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” said the Ed Hardy rep. Nice guy!

Since he's been in the news, we've spent an inordinate time thinking about him and his career, and this led to wondering what songs of his would make good movies. If you're snorting in disbelief, just stop and think for a moment. We're in an era where board games are being optioned for movies. Are we really going to say that "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" has less screenplay possibility than a game of pegs and plastic ships?

Besides, songs have provided inspiration for movies before. Bruce Springsteen's "Highway Patrolman" was the basis for Sean Penn's film The Indian Runner. Sam Peckinpah's Convoy was based on the country song by C.W. McCall. Love Potion No. 9 was ... OK, we won't talk about that one.Yesterday morning I rose at the break of dawn for the famed Christian Louboutin press sample sale! But Elvis Presley had a decent career of songs-to-movies,this is the new jordan 6 rings Carmelo Anthony PE. so there's a lot of precedent, and it's more promising than making a magic eight ball movie.

So, let me help you out, Hollywood. Here are five Paul Simon songs I feel would make brilliant films. Some of them date from his solo career, some of them from the Simon and Garfunkel era, but all were penned by him.

1. "The Boxer"
This plaintive 1968 tune is just begging for the big screen. Simon claims it's autobiographical, but I've always interpreted it as an immigrant's tale. Can't you see it set in the 19th century? A poor boy who leaves home (Ireland, probably) and winds up in New York poor, scared, and alone. He scrabbles around in tenements, finds comfort with prostitutes, and becomes a professional boxer for money. Think Gangs of New York crossed with Far and Away and The Godfather II, with plenty of bare-knuckle boxing and scenes of the lonely character soaking his knuckles in brine. It would end tragically, with the titular character suffering some kind of fatal or career-ending injury. "I am leaving, I am leaving / but the fighter still remains." Colin Farrell, Tom Hardy, or Kevin McKidd could star and win an Oscar. It is needless to say that most of us have at least two or three such items which we usually wear with wholesale jeans or trousers.

2. "America"
Is there any song more suitable for the 21st-century screen than America? Two drifters in love with one another and poetic ideals hit the road supplied only with pies and cigarettes, and search for the soul of America. It would be like Away We Go and Easy Rider only more vague, aimless, and haunting. Dave Eggers could write it and Sofia Coppola could direct it, lingering on shots of some scruffy young things looking morosely across the New Jersey turnpike. "I'm empty and I'm aching and I don't know why."

3. "That's Why God Made the Movies"
Obviously! Wes Anderson should direct this melancholy and quirky tale about a boy who loses his mother and grows up with an absentee father, and gets all his life lessons from cinema. He falls for an inscrutable and lovely woman, and is so socially inept he attempts to court her using only lines from movies and songs.

4. "Duncan"
A song-story in a similar vein to "The Boxer," "Duncan" is the story of Lincoln Duncan, a fisherman's son who abandons "the boredom and the chowder" of Canada for the marginally more exciting coast of New England. He falls in love with a female street preacher who seduces him in a tent, and then abandons him in a cheap motel. But why translate this exactly? Let's change the gender of the street preacher to a male and keep the setting in the 1970s, so that Duncan can still end up abandoned, alone, and thanking God he has fingers with which to play a guitar. Ang Lee should direct.Manolo blahnik has taken a sexy new stiletto heel to such a dangerous new.

5. "You Can Call Me Al"
There has to be one goofy one of the bunch. Though the lyrics of "You Can Call Me Al" are pretty serious (there's a whole section that seems to take place in a developing nation), its connection with Saturday Night Live and Chevy Chase beg for a comedic interpretation. Hand it to Mike White and Jack Black, and it can become a dorky and charming romp about a man who accidentally becomes a Secret Service agent. He falls for the president's wife (Betty, of course) and it ends up happily ever after when she dumps the president for the honest and soft-in-the-middle man who only wanted "a photo opportunity."

Aala Reed clothing boutique closes on Brady St.

Aala Reed, a high-end clothing boutique on Milwaukee's Brady St., closed over the weekend after nine years of business.

I haven't yet been able to reach store owner Laura Cole. But Aala Reed apparently ran into slow sales because of the economic downturn.

OnMilwaukee.com, which first reported the closing, included a statement from Cole, which referenced the "challenging economic times."

Aala Reed leased 1,641 square feet at The Passeggio, a two-story retail and apartment building, 1300-1330 E.opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system. Brady St., developed by Julilly Kohler.

Another high-end clothing boutique, Detour, closed at that building in September, leaving a 2,600-square-foot vacancy, said Brian Starr, of City Commercial Real Estate, the building's listing broker.

"Some of these higher priced items just aren't being purchased right now," Starr said. He said a business that sells men's clothing and shoes, which Starr declined to name, is considering a lease of the former Aala Reed space.

The Passeggio has 11,800 square feet of commercial space, and includes among its tenants Miss Groove women's fashions and Balzac retaurant and wine bar. `

Two Kansas State Seniors Were Suspended For Getting More Clothes Than They Paid For

Kansas State declared seniors Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly, its two leading scorers, ineligible prior to last night's game against UNLV because a sales clerk allowed the pair to take more clothing than they paid for. The players knew the sales clerk, but the store manager reported the incident.

Pullen, the preseason Big 12 player of the year, was averaging 16.5 points per game and is the Wildcats' best player. Based on the difference in value between what he paid for and what he received, Pullen will be suspended for three games. Officials have not determined how much Kelly, a preseason all-Big 12 selection averaging 10.this is the new jordan 6 rings Carmelo Anthony PE.3 points per game,Wearing a nicely Nike air max tn with a reputed brand name printed on it is surely going to compel most of your fellows to adore your sense of fashion and style received in impermissible benefits. He will be suspended accordingly when a conclusion is reached.

While we generally side with players in these circumstances, Pullen and Kelly present a murky case. On the one hand, should we really expect two college to turn down free clothing simply because they are basketball players? Any other student would have accepted that clothing without thinking twice.

But we don't know how well they knew the sales clerk, the manner in which she provided the free clothing, or the actual value of that "impermissible benefit." We can surmise that the store manager was upset, though, or else he wouldn't have been so quick to report it.

Considering the variables, assuming the free merchandise was of significant, but not obscene, value – say, opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system.somewhere in the three figures – a three game suspension seams reasonable.

With a song in her heart

Canada’s sweetheart of swing has always looked backward for inspiration and she’s found it in grainy footage of her family celebrating Christmas in 1955 in London.Riders wear long underwear beneath their Polo Shirts, and the horses wear special cleats.

Alex Pangman’s love of jazz is rooted in the 1930s and 1940s but her passion for life sprung in part by the way she was embraced by grandparents in London.

So when it came time to breathe life into a Christmas album she released four years ago, Pangman borrowed something old and something new, taking super-8 video from the 1950s that had been digitalized by her mother.

The video is set to the song that lent it’s name to the album’s title, Christmas Gift.

It shows downtown London crowded with men in suits and hats and ladies wearing furs, and later, the excitement of Christmas morning as her mother and aunt — then little girls — unwrap dolls in their Garfield St. home.opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system.

“It’s really evocative of another era,” Pangman said Wednesday.BURTON offer a great variety in men's shoes and trainers.

The video was inspired by memories Pangman has of visiting family here and listening to Bing Crosby.

“It’s the idea of the perfect Christmas,” she said.Wearing a nicely Nike air max tn with a reputed brand name printed on it is surely going to compel most of your fellows to adore your sense of fashion and style

Pangman, turned off by the pop music of the 1990s, was introduced to jazz by a friend who asked her to front his band. She fell in love with vocalists of the 1930s and 40’s, especially those forgotten by all but diehards.

The title track I Want You For Christmas was such a song, associated with Mae Questel, whose voice was the inspiration for Betty Boop.

Pangman is donating proceeds from album sales to raising awareness of the need for organ donors. Her own life was saved by a double lung transplant after cystic fibrosis nearly killed her.

She isn’t just looking to London for it’s past; she plans to be at Aeolian Hall in the spring to launch her next CD, about a year after her most recent appearance here.

But for now, as Christmas approaches, her thoughts, like her music, turn nostalgic.

Music is a gift and making the video was a gift to herself, a way to connect to grandparents who died a number of years ago.

“I felt like I spent the days with my grandparents,” she said.this is the new jordan 6 rings Carmelo Anthony PE.

Travel industry seeks relief from hassles

U.S. travelers are indeed annoyed by the airport pat-downs and other enhanced security measures, but having to remove their shoes tops the list of air-travel hassles they would like the next Congress to address, according to an extensive industry survey released Tuesday.

Though passengers understand the need for heightened vigilance in the world of post-Sept. 11 air travel, roughly 75 percBURTON offer a great variety in men's shoes and trainers.ent said "there has to be a better way," according to a survey conducted over the past few weeks by the U.S. Travel Association, a leading industry trade group.

The inconveniences directly affect the bottom line, analysts say, and industry executives say they are looking to the Obama administration and the 112th Congress for relief.

Roger Dow, the association's president, called on lawmakers to acknowledge the survey findings and said a panel will release a series of recommendations in early 2011 that he hopes will become part of Washington debate.

"There's a big opportunity with the new Congress coming in," Mr. Dow said, adding that lawmakers should mount a response as extensive as the one during the H1N1 flu outbreak of 2009.

"We really need that type of serious-response approach," he told The Washington Times.

The survey found that airport security procedures are hurting the U.S. economy. Respondents said they would take two or three more trips a year "if the hassle involved in flying could be reduced without compromising security.“Christian and she were laughing as she tried on ed hardy sunglasses and checked out the bathing suits,” said the Ed Hardy rep."

The nonprofit association - which represents the $700 billion travel industry - estimated that the additional trips would pump another $84.6 billion of travel spending into the U.S. economy, supporting 888,000 jobs.

"This is not just about the inconvenience, somebody's grandmother going through security in a wheelchair," said Bob Perkins, managing partner of Consensus Research, which conducted the survey. "This is a frustration issue with a huge economic impact.Riders wear long underwear beneath their Polo Shirts, and the horses wear special cleats."
