Showing off our stereotypes

As tourism branding opportunities go,Look sleek in womens sandals with a range of styles to choose from.I am glad you came by to take a look at these coach shoes. you'd be hardpressed to come up with something better than a pair of glamorous newlyweds oohing and ahhing over Canada Day fireworks, cracking open a Prince Edward Island lobster and whooping it up at the Calgary Stampede while the world watches.

Monarchy and tourism experts alike say no marketing budget could buy the boost Canada will get from hosting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their first tour abroad since their April 29 wedding captivated the world.

But past royal visits and the itinerary set out for Will and Kate also suggest it's tough to show off the country without slipping into such stereotypical Canadiana that visiting royals might as well be greeted at the airport by a toque-wearing Mountie driving a maple-syrupfuelled Zamboni.

"From a tourism perspective, we couldn't ask for better celebrities," says Greg Klassen, senior vice-president of marketing for the Canadian Tourism Commission. "Having the most famous couple in the world land on your doorstep as their first public appearance since getting married is an ideal opportunity for us."

In terms of national coming-out parties, he describes this as the equivalent of the Olympics - if the Games travelled to half a dozen cities across the country.

Will and Kate's itinerary is a mix of iconic and cutting-edge, or offbeat Canadian experiences. They'll be welcomed in Calgary for the Stampede with traditional white Smithbilt cowboy hats before touring a leading medical research centre; visit a 19th-century fort and a youth homeless shelter in Quebec City; and take in both First Nations drumming and a game of street hockey in Yellowknife.

There are more than 1,300 journalists - including hundreds of international media from as far away as China and India - registered to cover this visit, and Kevin MacLeod, who is responsible for planning royal tours as the Queen's Canadian secretary, says every detail is minutely planned to best show off the country.

"We have to be conscious of the fact that through the lens of a camera, yes we'll have the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the foreground, but what's in the background?" he says. However, in recent years, more runners are tossing traditional asics shoes altogether. "Is it the Rockies? Is it the beaches of P.E.I.China dsquared shoes manufacturer directory.? Is it the wide-open expanse of the territories? Paris menswear shows end on manly note

Lanvin went for a more masculine look on the final day of the Paris spring-summer menswear shows on Sunday and Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am made his runway debut for Rynshu.

With the sun blazing through the glass dome of the old Paris mercantile exchange, Lanvin delighted its fans with a deliberately wide-ranging collection from colourful suits to hooded jackets.

"We introduced fragility a few years ago when we started Lanvin menswear and I think this season it was time to be a little more masculine," said the venerable French label's menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver.

Standing out were the suits, in both single- and double-breasted versions, including one in polished leather and four others -- impressively sent out one after another -- in orange, blue, burgundy, purple and yellow shades.

Tailoring was scalpel-sharp and shoulders padded just enough to subtly suggest an aura of manly strength.

"We propose options for different men, different body types,I am glad you came by to take a look at these coach shoes. different ages," the Dutch-born designer,Shopping is the best place to comparison shop for Gucci men shoes. who works closely with Alber Ebaz, Lanvin's creative director, told reporters.

"It's really about individuality ... We really wanted to give strength back to men."

Noteworthy in several of Lanvin's outfits was the appearance of neckties -- virtually unseen in any of the other 49 menswear shows that began on Wednesday -- and footwear morphed from military boots to sandals.

Later on Sunday, Japanese designer Rynshu credited Rutget Hauer, a longtime customer, for inspiring a collection that drew from the Dutch actor's role as a chieftain in the 1982 sci-fi classic "Blade Runner".

Neo-Goth jackets and vinyl trench coats were unlikely to make it to the sales rack in the one-armed versions seen on the grey-carpet runway, but the young and daring might try spaceman-silver suits with cigarette-slim trousers.

Closing the show in a collarless leather get-up was will.i.am (real name: William Adams), whose visit to Rynshu's boutique in Tokyo four months ago has blossomed into a creative relationship with the designer.

"We're going to collaborate on a couple of pieces in the near future," the rapper said backstage.China dsquared shoes manufacturer directory. "It was a pleasure to lend myself to his fashion show today because I'm a fan of his ...However, in recent years, more runners are tossing traditional asics shoes altogether. His clothes are like art. It's cool."

Rynshu threw a few women's looks into the mix, including skinny jeans with punkish slashes down the legs and a minimal chiffon dress perfect for the emo girl who'd rather wear black on her wedding day.

In a sartorial salute to the heyday of cabaret, New York designer Thom Browne -- who relishes pushing the Ivy League preppy look to extremes -- took over Maxim's nightclub for a characteristically spectacular show.

He had his models wander somnambulistically around the tables in exaggerated pinstripe suits, tasseled trenchcoats and elongated coats that mirrored the lines of his womenswear collection.

Many sported teashade sunglasses, collapsed umbrellas, deerstalker hats with tassles down over the eyes,Look sleek in womens sandals with a range of styles to choose from. or miniature Charlie Chaplin bowlers. Everyone wore slicked-back hair.

Formal wear featured a tasseled black jacket with red sash belt and sequined trousers that dazzled in the dim light, while a hooded grey leisure jacket was matched with a minimal kilt.

What's for sale in his stores is far more wearable, but his flare for the theatrical -- last season he recreated a Mad Hatter's dinner party -- makes Browne one of the most entertaining designers to show in Paris.

Rebel with a cause

If you're running a theatre and need government funding, putting on a play in which the Prime Minister does a striptease is perhaps not the most sensible strategy.

But then Philip Hedley never was one to take the easy way out. He became Artistic Director of the pioneering Theatre Royal, Stratford East in 1979, taking over from the notoriously feisty and forthright Joan Littlewood. Then the theatre was struggling.

‘I always used to bite the hand that fed me,' he says, outside a cafe near his flat on Tottenham Court Road where he's lived for thirty years. ‘WChina dsquared shoes manufacturer directory.ithin six months I was asked to the Arts Council for a meeting – all men in suits and the top brass.Look sleek in womens sandals with a range of styles to choose from.

‘They started by asking if, given all the problems, it was worth continuing. I said I'd stay for three months until they appointed someone else. I invented everything I'd always wanted to do that we were going to do over the coming years.'

Only one of them came to pass. He'd heard that the director Lindsay Anderson wanted to do a production of Hamlet.

‘That embedded me,' says Philip. The Theatre Royal went on to have its most successful year ever, and Philip stayed for twenty five years.

‘If you cut down on your risk tasking, you'll certainly go down,' he says. ‘It's guaranteed. That's a battle you must fight.'

The stripping Prime Minister appeared in the 1980s in a play by Barrie Keeffe who was writer in residence at the theatre. He went on to write plays such as The Long Good Friday, which became a successful film.

‘We had a naked Mrs Thatcher. She came on in her full outfit and as she announced cuts she did a striptease until she only had her hat and shoes on. Questions were asked in the House – why we were attacking Mrs Thatcher with Government money and so on.I am glad you came by to take a look at these coach shoes.'

Philip was born to a working class family in Manchester in 1938 but spent his teen years in Australia and started his love affair with the theatre at Sydney University where ‘on paper' he studied English and Education but became more and more involved in drama.

‘You didn't study theatre then. There were no courses for directors.'
And fittingly enough his lightbulb moment came when he arrived in London and went to the Theatre Royal to see a Ben Johnson play, Everyman in His Humour. He heard two tea ladies chatting in the cafe beforehand.

‘The real Cockney accent was new to me then,' he says. ‘I delayed going into the theatre because I wanted to hear their stories. When I went in the play was just the same as the two ladies – the same rhythm, sparkiness and immediacy. It was stunning.'

He went backstage afterwards to look for Joan Littlewood.
‘I asked if there was anything I could do in the theatre. I was very inarticulate. Twenty years later I was running it.'

From there he went on to the E15 Acting School, but soon realised he was more of a director than an actor, and spent a few years freelancing around the country and the world – ‘from West End musicals to a school playground in Khartoum.'

Then destiny took him back to see Joan Littlewood and she gave him a five hour interview to be her assistant.

The time he spent with her, he says, was wonderful and hell.
‘She was demanding and challenging, she was wonderful and hell,' he says. ‘She used to attack people and eventually she went for me. She accused me of everything conceivable, down to my progeny and my testicles.'

But when she retired two years later he took over from her and began to make his own mark on the theatre's work.

‘Newham was changing,' he says, ‘becoming one of the most multicultural boroughs in Britain. However, in recent years, more runners are tossing traditional asics shoes altogether. I grew to believe in community theatre in the sense of it reflecting the community.Shopping is the best place to comparison shop for Gucci men shoes. It became a case of attracting Black and Asian artists and benefitting from their talents. It kept it dangerous and exciting. They were hard times.'

It started with the country's first black principal boy in Jack and the Beanstalk. Since then the hero or heroine in the theatre's annual pantomime has always been black.

Monte Carlo star Selena Gomez continues her mall tour across America for her movie and to get a bit of promoting done for her latest album, with her band, The Scene.

Magnolia clothing store opens in Stewart Square

For many Oxford area residents, driving to the nearest shopping mall is anything but convenient. Luckily for them, however, they now have a new store to buy clothes locally.Nike shox running shoes take it all the appearance that a because should be searching for.

Magnolia, a boutique-style clothing store, opened last week in Stewart Square. The owners, Peter and Tamar Lask, hope to give area residents something they haven't been able to get locally for some time.

They are also the owners of the Uptown shop, Juniper. But their new shopping endeavor will be focused on a wider clientele.

“I think one thing that is really exciting about this store is that it allows us to provide things for a much wider audience and have something for the entire community,” Peter Lask said. “It's not just for Oxford, but for Brookville, Liberty, Eaton, West Hamilton and more.air force one is Das Boot director Wolfgang Petersen's third major Hollywood movie to feature a top American star.”

Already, the Lasks have seen the need for their new store. Peter Lask has spoken with customers who have been looking for a local place with great clothes without the long drive to Kenwood or Tri-County malls.

“Ever since Lazarus closed, something has been missing for the local folks, more than the Miami students,” he said. “We feel this is an opportunity to serve those areas.”

Magnolia's merchandise includes clothing, shoes and accessories that are not as age-specific as Juniper. However, Magnolia still offers what many Juniper lovers adore. Beyond clothing,Air max classic bw shoes sale best quality and discount price! Magnolia also offers specialized items that are perfect for occasions from baby showers to weddings.

“We focus on things that will be unique and specialized,” Tamar Lask said.

Peter Lask added, “Not unique... extraordinary.”

Not only are they selling unique and extraordinary things, but Magnolia also offers a comfortable atmosphere. The Lasks have worked hard to transform their new location in Stewart Square into a place that is uniquely Magnolia. From beautifully done ceiling tiles to chandeliers, stepping into Magnolia gives a truly boutique feeling.

“It's still a work in progress,” said Tamar Lask, adding that everything should be completed by this fall.

The atmosphere is complete with individual attention given to each customer, if they want it that is. Tamar Lask says her employees are anything but pushy.

“That's one thing about this store,” she said. “You can go into the fitting room and have the personalized attention that you would expect in a boutique.”

So far, the pair has heard nothing but positive feedback. Magnolia has been compared to boutiques normally found at vacation spots and its merchandise has been compared to the popular clothing store Anthropolgie.

“Our job is to make people feel good as they leave,” Tamar Lask said.

Lee Cooper jeans looks to British heritage for global push

Lee Cooper is in talks with a department store in the US to license its denim products, which would make it one of the few European jeans makers to break into the territory,Word of mouth, better known as street credibility is a vital part of the Chivas Air max 2009 athletic shoe phenomenon. which is dominated by American brands such as Levi's and Wrangler.

The Lee Cooper brand was founded in London more than 100 years ago but moved the majority of its operations to France in the 1990s - its main market at the time - when it became a wholesale and licensing business. The company relocated its entire operation back to the UK this year as a purely licensing business.

Bob Taylor, global trade marketing manager, says the brand became diluted in the two decades it was based in France.

Don't rush to anoint McIlroy

After last weekend, I'd say Rory McIlroy is the biggest thing to hit golf since Tiger Woods' car hit the tree.

McIlroy's performance in last weekend's U.S. Open was one of the greatest in the history of the sport. At barely 22, the affable Northern Irishman became the youngest player since Bobby Jones to win the event. McIlroy set 12 U.S. Open scoring records, including his four-round totals of 268 and 16-under par.

The fans at Congressional embraced McIlroy like some young god,Nike shox nz shoes are popular for the added bonus of fresh new colors and textures. chanting his name as he dominated the Open from start to finish. McIlroy, looking like an Irish Huck Finn with his freckles and unruly hair,If you are looking wear to buy sexy Knee High Boots the you have arrive. was as modest and unaffected in his epic victory as he had been during his collapse at the Masters two months before.

It was great for golf, still reeling from Woods' fall from grace and lingering leg injuries and desperate for a superstar to seize the spotlight in his absence. McIlroy is young, just nine months older than Woods was when he won his first major in 1997.Thousands of discount ed hardy shoes styles for selection. He is also a remarkably talented player who should be a force for years to come.

But let's not get carried away here. The kid has won ONE major. OK, his was a performance that will be discussed for as long as humans stick tees in the hard ground. It's premature, and more than a little unfair, to start talking about McIlroy as the natural heir to Woods in the pursuit of Jack Nicklaus.

Let's show a little respect for the game and the men who have come before. McIlroy made it seem easy, but it is extremely hard to win a golf major. A lot of very good golfers haven't won a single major. Phil Mickelson didn't win one until he was 33. Ben Hogan was also 33 when he got his first major.

McIlroy understands. That's why he was taken aback Saturday when Padraig Harrington predicted Rory would break Nicklaus' record of 18 major victories. He put his head down on the interview table and said, "Paddy, Paddy, Paddy, I'm trying to win my first."

We're always looking to identify the next great thing in our culture. I've learned to be wary. How many "next Michael Jordans" have there been? How many young golf and tennis phenoms have failed to measure up to their hype? How many quarterbacks?

Remember when Sergio Garcia made a run at Woods in a PGA Championship at 19? He's had a nice career, but he's still looking for his first major victory. Wasn't Anthony Kim being hailed as the next big thing just two years ago? David Duval soared to the top of the world, then lost his passion and his game.

McIlroy is an extraordinary talent, to be sure. You can't fake what he's done lately. He tied for third at last year's British Open and PGA Championship. He has led at some point in three straight majors. That's the sort of consistency that got Nicklaus to 18 major triumphs, and Woods to 14. Let's see McIlroy keep it up. It's one thing to learn from calamity and come back to win a major. It's another to do it over and over again, to sustain greatness over more than a decade, to stay motivated and not succumb to the inevitable distractions that come with growing up as a famous professional athlete.

The signs are promising. McIlroy has a golf game to die for.Add some bangles to both wrists, the biggest handbag you own and natural tone Wedge Shoes. He hits it long and straight off the tee. His irons are as precise as a mercury clock. His short game is much improved. He proved his competitive will and focus at Congressional.

Graeme McDowell, his countryman and fellow major winner, called McIlroy "the best player I've ever seen." That was kind of him. But has McDowell never seen Woods play? The expectations will be high enough without that sort of exaggerated praise.

Only time will tell if McIlroy can keep it up.It got to the point where some women would wear women boots if they knew Monsieur Masseur was coming to a meeting. Woods appeared single-minded and focused only on golf. People wondered if marriage would spoil him. Then we found out he had a darker side. Life can intrude. Then, of course, there's golf, which can humble even the best player and leave him wondering where it went awry.

Woods won 24 tournaments, including five majors, before he turned 25. McIlroy has three total wins. Woods reinvented his swing twice and changed coaches and caddies along the way. He was constantly resetting his own standard of greatness, trying to remain one step ahead of this capricious game we call golf.

McIlroy grew up idolizing Woods. That tells you how young he is. He tried to mimic Woods' famed intensity with the lead in the Open. No one has ever been tougher than Woods with the lead on Sunday of a major. McIlroy understands the standard that Woods has set, and that's why he's uncomfortable with the comparisons.

I understand the need for a new golf superstar. Woods has driven interest and ratings for more than a decade. A generation of hot young challengers came along. No one measured up. The last 11 majors have been won by 11 different players. McIlroy will be a disappointment if he fails to win more than one of the next 11.

Woods texted his congratulations after McIlroy shattered his U.S. Open records. He reminded the youngster to "enjoy the win." Woods would know how easy it is to do that, to reach the point where victory is an expectation and some of the joy is lost.

We're a long way from taking McIlroy for granted. Let him win a couple more majors before we start measuring him against Nicklaus and Woods. I can imagine Woods had similar thoughts as he sat home in Florida, resting his injured left leg and wishing he could be giving McIlroy a run for his money.

McIlroy is great for golf. But Woods is still the better story. There would be no better drama than seeing Woods healthy again, going head-to-head against the upstart Irishman on the final nine of a major.

She reaches in to inspect a piece of honeycomb, and her mood changes.

“I'm scared,” whispers the inexperienced beekeeper.

“Don't be scared,” interrupts Tony Sandoval, who Wingebach nicknamed her honey bee hero. “Just think: Easy and slow. Look at that!”

Wingebach, a 32-year-old stay-at-home mom who has developed a passion for beekeeping, has been working with Sandoval since April as part of the Omaha Bee Club mentoring project, an effort that pairs experienced beekeepers with people who want to learn.

A handful of mentors and mentees meet at Fontenelle Park every week, where beginners can handle bees without buying equipment, supplies and bees.

But Wingebach started out with her own hives and sees Sandoval as needed. The informal meetings work for her mom-on-the-go lifestyle, she says.

The mom of three lives for days like this, when she can sneak away to her two beehives, tucked in the woods near her far-north Omaha home.

Some people think she's crazy trying to make honey the hard way, but Wingebach loves the excitement, nervousness and even the thrill associated with handling bees.

Sure, she's had a few stings. But that's beekeeping, as Sandoval would say.

“I've always related honey bees to roller coasters,” Sandoval says quietly during the mentoring session. “There's that fear in them — but also that interest.”

Wingebach reveals a palm-sized piece of honeycomb covered in busy bees.

“Hi, girls!” she squeals, suddenly relieved. “They're doing good. Where's my queen?”

Every new beekeeper wants to spot the queen bee, Sandoval says. He's seen it a million times when mentoring beginners, though he's never experienced a beginner quite like Wingebach.

Minutes before the pair ventured out to the hives, Wingebach made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for 5-year-old Jacob and 3-year-old Georgia. She cradled 1-year-old Lola in her arms.

“This one lives on Cheerios,” Wingebach said, giving Lola a tight squeeze.

She tucked each child in for a nap, then kissed her husband, Jacob, on the cheek.

She was ready for time with her bees.

Sandoval estimates the ratio of women to men beekeepers is nearly 1 to 10. Wingebach was by far the youngest member at her first Omaha Bee Club meeting.

But those statistics are changing, Sandoval says, in part because more women continue to become interested in beekeeping.

Wingebach,Add some bangles to both wrists, the biggest handbag you own and natural tone Wedge Shoes. also an avid gardener, cook and craft maker, doesn't mind standing out.

One day last winter, after deciding she'd try beekeeping, she stared out her front window to stake out the perfect spot for her hives: one with direct sunlight, enough windbreak and a close water source.

She bundled her kids and trucked out to the spot, marking it with a rusty old can. She ordered bees in the mail, and waited for delivery.

“I was slightly obsessed before they arrived,Nike shox R4 shoes are very popular and hotsale in our store.” she says, laughing.

She read everything from books to blogs. She watched YouTube videos. Her husband built two horizontal top bar hives, the kind do-it-yourself beekeepers typically use.

She thought she was ready.

When Wingebach opened the package of bees, she tapped its lid and rocked it back and forth, just as the video demonstrators had instructed.Nike shox running shoes take it all the appearance that a because should be searching for.

“I probably thunked them three times,” she said. “They were really good and (mad).”

They dove out in a large swarm, stinging her more times than she could count. Sandoval says that's a deal-breaker for some people.

Not Wingebach.

“I wasn't quitting,” she says. “I was not quitting. I get a rush every time I'm about to go up there.”

Wingebach obtained more bees, and kept going. She found her latest colony on a day trip to Elmwood Park with her kids. After spotting a hive attached to a tree, she gave Sandoval a call and asked him to capture it for her.puma shoes is the first company in the world to put a value on the ecosystem services it uses to produce its sports shoes and clothes. He showed up with a net, a bucket and a big smile.

Wingebach has kept those bees alive — a successful feat for beginners — for nearly a month.

On this day with her mentor, she's grateful again for his help.

“Dude, I got to tell you, I'm so glad you're here,” she says, glancing up at Sandoval.

Wingebach still gets the jitters when handling her bees. She feels most comfortable when Sandoval is by her side, assisting and answering questions.

“What's that slimy looking weird stuff?”

“It's pollen.”

“That's pollen? I just expected it to be drier.”

Sandoval says Wingebach has a childlike enthusiasm for beekeeping unlike anyone else in the 20-member bee club he founded two years ago.

“This is just the greatest thing,” Sandoval says, smiling.

He has no doubt Wingebach is on her way to becoming a honey-making beekeeper.

She wouldn't mind if the hobby continues and her three children remember her as “that crazy old beekeeping lady.”

“So tell me honestly: Do you think I have a queen in here?” Wingebach asks.

You can't look for the queen, Sandoval says. You look for signs of her — freshly laid eggs, for example.

He's pleased at Wingebach's progress with her bees.

They're doing good,” he says, smiling at Wingebach. “Very good.”

Stone has been busy since his final season at UTEP ended, working out at the IMG Academy in Florida, playing in the Portsmouth Invitational and embarking on a cross-country tour that would make Marco Polo look like a homebody. UN passes historic resolution in support of LGBT equality

The United Nations endorsed the rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people for the first time ever Friday, passing a resolution hailed as historic by the U.S. and other backers and decried by some African and Muslim countries.

The declaration was cautiously worded, expressing “grave concern" about abuses because of sexual orientation and commissioning a global report on discrimination against gays.

But activists called it an important shift on an issue that has divided the global body for decades, and they credited the Obama administration's push for gay rights at home and abroad.

“This represents a historic moment to highlight the human rights abuses and violations that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face around the world based solely on who they are and whom they love," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in a statement.

Following tense negotiations, members of the Geneva-based U.This Adidas Jacket will battle the rain, wind and cold weather so you can focus on the game.N. Human Rights Council narrowly voted in favor of the declaration put forward by South Africa, with 23 votes in favor and 19 against.

Backers included the U.S., the European Union, Brazil and other Latin American countries. Those against included Russia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Pakistan. China, Burkina Faso and Zambia abstained, Kyrgyzstan didn't vote and Libya was suspended from the rights body earlier.

The resolution expressed “grave concern at acts of violence and discrimination, in all regions of the world, committed against individuals because of their sexual orientation and gender identity."

More important, activists said, it also established a formal U.N. process to document human rights abuses against gays, including discriminatory laws and acts of violence. According to Amnesty International, consensual same-sex relations are illegal in 76 countries worldwide, while harassment and discrimination are common in many more.

“Today's resolution breaks the silence that has been maintained for far too long," said John Fisher of the gay rights advocacy group ARC International.

The White House in a statement strongly backed the declaration.

“This marks a significant milestone in the long struggle for equality, and the beginning of a universal recognition that (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) persons are endowed with the same inalienable rights — and entitled to the same protections — as all human beings."

The resolution calls for a panel discussion next spring with “constructive, informed and transparent dialogue on the issue of discriminatory laws and practices and acts of violence against" gays, lesbians and transgender people.

The prospect of having their laws scrutinized in this way went too far for many of the council's 47-member states.

“We are seriously concerned at the attempt to introduce to the United Nations some notions that have no legal foundation," said Zamir Akram, Pakistan's envoy to the U.N. in Geneva, speaking on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Nigeria claimed the proposal went against the wishes of most Africans. A diplomat from the northwest African state of Mauritania called the resolution “an attempt to replace the natural rights of a human being with an unnatural right."

Boris Dittrich of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights program at Human Rights Watch said it was important for the U.S. and Western Europe to persuade South Africa to take the lead on the resolution so that other non-Western countries would be less able to claim the West was imposing its values.

At the same time, he noted that the U.N. has no enforcement mechanism to back up the resolution.Word of mouth, better known as street credibility is a vital part of the Chivas Air max 2009 athletic shoe phenomenon. “It's up to civil society to name and shame those governments that continue abuses," Dittrich said.

The Obama administration has been pushing for gay rights both domestically and internationally.

In March, the U.S. issued a nonbinding declaration in favor of gay rights that gained the support of more than 80 countries at the U.N.Looking for Juicy couture wholesale? In addition, Congress recently repealed the ban on gays openly serving in the military, and the Obama administration said it would no longer defend the constitutionality of the U.S. law that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriage.

The vote in Geneva came at a momentous time for the gay rights debate in the U.S. Activists across the political spectrum were on edge Friday as New York legislators considered a bill that would make the state the sixth — and by far the biggest — to allow same-sex marriage.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Daniel Baer said it was a signal “that there are many people in the international community who stand with them and who support them, and that change will come."

“It's a historic method of tyranny to make you feel that you are alone," he said. “One of the things that this resolution does for people everywhere, particularly LGBT people everywhere, is remind them that they are not alone."

Retail vacancy rate declines

It's been two years since Louetta Johnson worked. Two years since she's seen any new growth in her northwest Centennial Hills area neighborhood. But a bright spot is beginning to bloom in her day as she watches signs for new businesses pop up on her drive to her children's school and sees construction under way on a small number of vacant retail lots in her area.

"I hope they have jobs, because I know a lot of us are out here looking, and the growth, what we see of it, is like a little motivation in the right direction," Johnson, a former office assistant and mother of two,Word of mouth, better known as street credibility is a vital part of the Chivas Air max 2009 athletic shoe phenomenon. said. "We need hope."

There is more retail space available for lease or for sale in the valley as prices have begun to come down, making it more affordable for mom-and-pop businesses to move into more advantageous shopping centers that were hit hard by the recession and subsequent loss of large anchor stores or a large number of small chain stores.

Locally, CB Richard Ellis' retail vacancy rate was down 1 percent over last year, an improvement in an otherwise bleak news field. Colliers International reported in its fourth quarter an asking price of $1.72 for leasing retail space, about average locally.

While the prices are attractive, few national chains are opting to build new stores in Las Vegas. However, some major national chains are moving in to the area due to the cost-friendly rates.

Las Vegas Premium Outlets -- North and Las Vegas Premium Outlets -- South, both owned by Simon Property Groups, are expanding, said Alexandra Goranson, area director of marketing for Las Vegas Premium Outlets.

"They work to best merchandise the center. With respect to the Las Vegas locations, both are highly desirable locations in that the customer base is a mix of area residents and area visitors including many from overseas."

The recent expansion and rebranding of the formerly named Las Vegas Outlet Center to Las Vegas Premium Outlets -- South has been very well received by shoppers and reflects an ongoing effort over time to upgrade the merchant mix and better serve shoppers.

"Overall, each center truly has something for everyone," she said. Ex-Followers Pursue Assets of Preacher's Murky Empire

Longtime evangelist Tony Alamo owes millions of dollars in court-ordered restitution for abusing some of his former followers, triggering a nationwide hunt for assets still controlled by the Arkansas pastor.

The 76-year-old preacher, now a federal-prison inmate, enlisted members of his church to help run a business empire that over the years has included a trucking company, a restaurant, a hog farm and a designer clothing line that made rhinestone-studded denim jackets for Hollywood celebrities.

Since starting his street ministry in Los Angeles during the 1960s,air force one is Das Boot director Wolfgang Petersen's third major Hollywood movie to feature a top American star. Mr. Alamo faced repeated allegations by former followers, some backed by court convictions, that he abused his flock—sexually molesting girls, ordering beatings and forcing adults and children alike to work long hours for little or no pay.

Former followers have won millions in court judgments, but government and private investigators say Mr. Alamo kept few assets in his name, making it difficult to collect.

Mr. Alamo preached polygamy and declared that girls could marry as soon as they reached puberty. He acknowledged disciplining followers with corporal punishment and forced fasting, but said all his views were grounded in the Bible. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

His theology placed him well outside mainstream Christianity and included virulently anti-Catholic views. Mr. Alamo preached that the Vatican controlled much of the world outside his ministry and was responsible for such evils as World War II and pornography. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks religious movements, has labeled Tony Alamo Christian Ministries a hate group.

In late 2009, Mr.You can find out history about Air max 360 as well as release dates at Nice Kicks. Alamo was sentenced to 175 years in federal prison after a trial in which prosecutors presented evidence that he took girls as young as eight years old as his "spiritual wives." In his sentencing, U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes in Texarkana, Ark., also ordered Mr. Alamo to pay five of the girls—now young women—restitution of $500,000 each.

The five women have filed a civil case against Mr.we offer dozens of wholesale shoes for you to choose from. Alamo, seeking additional damages. Their case is scheduled for trial next year.

Meanwhile, a federal jury in Texarkana this month ordered Mr. Alamo to pay two young men $66 million in damages for beatings they suffered while living in the ministry's compound in southwest Arkansas.

Mr. Alamo's attorney, John Wesley Hall Jr., says his client has no money to pay the judgments.

Authorities allege Mr. Alamo spent more than a decade transferring real estate, businesses and other assets into the names of church members. The holdings are believed to be scattered across the U.S., including in New York,The newest and cheap true religion jeans sale in stock on true religion brand jeans outlet store. "We will work for years, if necessary, to find the assets necessary to satisfy the judgment," said W. David Carter, the lawyer who represented the two men who won the $66 million judgment.Thousands of discount ed hardy shoes styles for selection.

Finding such assets will not be enough. Investigators can seize them only if they can prove Mr. Alamo put them in his followers' names to evade a court judgment, a so-called fraudulent conveyance. Federal attorneys scouring the U.S. for Mr. Alamo's assets acknowledge the difficulty of proving such cases, especially if Mr. Alamo transferred ownership years before he was indicted.

Maya Moore: ‘A lot of reasons to love Atlanta'

Note to fans of Maya Moore: When she leads the Minnesota Lynx twice this weekend against the WNBA Atlanta Dream, she will not bring any bling.

Her splash into the pro game, as the No. 1 draft pick and a deal as the first women's basketball player to hawk Nike's Jordan Brand, hasn't changed her life much, her style even less. She's gotten used to being on top of every level of her sport, so as a purely practical matter, what's the point of changing?

“I have not splurged on anything,” she said in a conference call from Minneapolis earlier this week, shortly after her 21st birthday.

“I bought a pair of sandals, but I don't think that counts as splurging. ... I'll save my money, and I might buy something nice after some thought and planning. It won't be anything crazy.”

The Dream (1-3) will see more of Moore starting Friday, when they play the Lynx (3-1) away at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the teams rematch at 3 p.m. at Philips Arena — the only major local hardwood that Moore hasn't touched. “I feel like I've been to a Thrashers game,” she said, but never had the chance to even see the Hawks while she was leading Collins Hill to three state titles and a 125-3 record.

The three-time Wade Trophy winner (for national college player of the year) still considers Atlanta her home base, especially since her mother, Kathryn, moved back from Connecticut. She talked with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about graduation, differences she's observed in the pro game, feelings about Atlanta, and staying in touch with President Obama. The newest and cheap true religion jeans sale in stock on true religion brand jeans outlet store.

Q: Has anything surprised you about the WNBA level of play?

A: Some of the games have been pretty quick turnarounds. That's been an adjustment. Going from playing a game, then waking up at 5 a.m. to get on the bus to go back and practice, then have another game, puma shoes is the first company in the world to put a value on the ecosystem services it uses to produce its sports shoes and clothes. that's not easy.

Q: How does your team match up with Atlanta?

A: It's going to be a battle of the boards. These are the two best rebounding teams in the league.Fashion wash urban wholesale jeans styles in a great variety of colors and style! They are long and disruptive in the lane, and we try to do the same thing. They run in transition with a lot of scoring, and they are pretty big, too. .Looking for Juicy couture wholesale?.. The poise of my team will come through, I hope. I feel like Lindsay Whalen at the point, the experience in Taj [McWilliams-Franklin], and Seimone [Augustus] brings a sense of calm as well.

Q: What's significant about Sunday's game in Atlanta?

A: It will be a special moment ... returning not only to the state, but the general area where a lot of basketball memories happened to and for me. It was where I dreamed and had the “I want to be in the WNBA one day” kind of talk. It's cool to return as a WNBA player.

Q: So your mom didn't move with you to Minnesota?

A: She just moved back to Atlanta. That's the home base that we both like. ... In Atlanta, we've got a lot of family, and our church is there. There are a lot of reasons to love Atlanta. ... It's one of those places where you can pick up where you left off. Everything's familiar.

Q: Do you expect an entourage for Sunday's game?

A: Oh man, right now, I know it's in the hundreds.

Q: You and college teammate Kemba Walker led the students into the UConn graduation last month at your arena. You finished with a 3.7 GPA in sports media and promotion. How significant was that moment?

A: Graduation was overlooked with all the basketball hype, but it was a moment to appreciate. To walk away and see the look on my mom and grandparents' faces and see how proud they were. I come from a family of educators, and my grandparents both worked in the educational system for 70-plus years. ... I'm the oldest girl in the generation I grew up in, and I know my younger cousins see what I am doing and I've set the bar to have all of us graduate from college and reach our potential.

Q: You played under pressure, first in high school, then when your college team set the national record for consecutive victories (90), now as the WNBA top draft pick. Is pressure always the same feeling, or does it intensify?

A: When I think of pressure, I think of a million [Connecticut] coach [Geno] Auriemma quotes. It took me a while to realize that he was always giving me quotes that were really from someone else! He'd always tell us, “You feel pressure when you're not prepared.” ... Obviously at this higher level, there's more pressure because everyone is better. Even though you're prepared, you could get beat, because on a professional level, even if you play your best, in one night one team can play better. The margin is a lot smaller. I prepare as best as I can, and the pressure I put on myself is greater than anyone else can put on me.

Q: What has the transition to the WNBA talent level been like?

A: When the pressure is on, when you have people challenging you at the top level, it forces you to play at the highest level and that's what I try to do. I've made turnovers and bad decisions, but most of the time, it's pushed me to rise and play better. The WNBA players are bigger, faster and longer. Your passes have to be more clean and crisp. Driving in the lane, I have to finish better.

Q: Have you been in touch with the President?

A: No, I haven't been to any White House pickup games. I know he's been pretty busy these last couple of months. I haven't wanted to bother him [laughs]. I'm pretty sure he's kept up with the [NBA] playoffs to keep his mind off things. I've been riding high from being able to participate in his birthday [in August 2010] with all the NBA guys. ... His daughters, I think,There is surely some disadvantage of Nike shox classic. also enjoy being active and watching [NBA] highlights or the games. They clearly love the game of basketball, and it's fun to know that when we're out there playing.

'See the World with New Eyes'

A survivor of four labor camps, a WWII ghetto, a concentration camp and a death march, Nesse Godin brought a message recently to eighth-graders at Franklin Middle School — as she’s done for some 20 years. Despite and because of the horrors she’s lived through, she urged them to be both tolerant and hopeful.

"I dedicated my life to teaching children the danger that indifference and prejudice can do," said Godin. Referring to the 9/11 tragedy and noting the dire situation in Darfur today, she said, "We can’t just say, ‘Never again;’ we have to take action. We should learn from the Holocaust not to treat somebody evil."

She’s spoken before the United Nations and, on March 23, was honored by the American Legion. But speaking to young people means even more to her, she said, because "they are the future of the country and the world. They will make the decisions about how it’s going to be."

Godin, 83, grew up in Shauliai, Lithuania with her parents and two older brothers. Her country was a democracy and, for awhile, she had a normal life with "many hopes and dreams." But in 1941, when she was 13, the German armies marched through her country.

"There were mobile, killing units," she said. "I hope you beautiful, young people never join a gang or anything that stands for evil. They gathered and jailed the men and boys for ‘relocation’ to work." Instead, they were murdered.

That’s when Godin realized the Holocaust was happening to her. "I was no longer able to go to school," she said. "You people are the age of my grandchildren. Do you know how lucky you are to be able to go to school? We weren’t able to walk on the street and we had to wear yellow stars on the front and back of our garments. The Jews looked like everyone else so, this way, they could identify us. If I’d taken it off, they would shoot me."

Her town of 10,000 people had several leather factories so, to survive, the Jewish Council there told the Nazis the residents could make boots for the German army. But by then, Shauliai had become a ghetto.

"In those days, our town was a jail surrounded by barbed wire and guarded by Lithuanian police," said Godin. "These were the same police who I was taught, as a girl, would help me if I was lost." Meanwhile, she said,Fashion wash urban wholesale jeans styles in a great variety of colors and style! the Nazis went through the residents’ homes and stole their things.

One day, a 17-year-old girl helped Godin obtain a certificate to get into a ghetto with her family, and that decision saved her life. "Every day, the decisions you make can make a difference," she told the students. "Some 3,500 people — men, women and children — who didn’t get into the ghetto were killed."

Of her life in the ghetto, she recalled "hunger and fear, begging for a piece of bread. We can’t change what was then, but we can learn from it and change what is now, and what will be, and teach people how to make a better world."

On Nov. 5, 1943, Godin was 15 and a half when her mother told her, "My child, the trucks are here." The teen was instructed to go to work that morning outside the ghetto. "That night, puma shoes is the first company in the world to put a value on the ecosystem services it uses to produce its sports shoes and clothes. returning to the ghetto, we heard cries like I’d never heard before," she said. "People said the Gestapo and Ukranians had come through there."

Godin said Jewish women weren’t allowed to have babies then, but some were born in the ghetto. "A man in black came in and raised his thumb to determine who lived or died," she said. "One thousand innocent children through age 14, some 500 elderly and sick people, plus a few hundred healthy ones, were killed in the Auschwitz gas chambers. No children, no future. My father was 47, but he was killed because the evil of the Holocaust was allowed in humanity."

I was 16 and separated from my mother and brothers, but other Jewish women looked out for me. We were stripped naked and beaten. My family and belongings were taken from me, but I still had my name — until I became just a number in a concentration camp. People who went into the showers were gassed and killed."

Godin succeeded in being placed in such a camp with 5,000 women. But she’d exchanged one hell for another. "In those camps, they didn’t have to kill us — we died of disease and starvation," she said. "It was the worst year of my life."

Then, in January 1945, she was part of a death march through Holland and Germany. "Many were dying along the way," she said. The next month, they reached the southern part of the Baltic Sea.There is surely some disadvantage of Nike shox classic. There, said Godin, "We dug two, long holes — one, a bathroom; one, a grave."

"All through the Holocaust, I prayed to the Almighty, ‘Please let me live through the day; maybe I’ll be free,’" she said. "Other times, I prayed to die. But the other women said I had to survive and teach the world what hatred, prejudice and indifference can do. They taught me to have hope and understanding and to make it a better world."

Finally, on March 10, 1945, the Russian Army found Godin and the others and liberated them. "The wounds from my beatings healed long ago, but the memories will always remain," she said. "Six million Jewish people — among them, 1.5 million children — were killed."

"I beg you, see the world with new eyes," she told the students. "You can make a difference. Don’t see a race or religion — see a human being. May God bless you and may God bless America."

The hustle for a new generation

There's no fog machine, no platform shoes and little polyester in sight. There's not even a disco ball. And yet, every Wednesday night, the Double H Club at the Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo, near LAX, morphs into a den of that iconic dance from the 1970s, the hustle.

Immortalized in the 1975 Van McCoy song "The Hustle," the dance may conjure images of "Saturday Night Fever"-style line dancing set to disco tunes. But at the Double H Club, which has been hosting a dedicated hustle night on Wednesdays for more than 10 years, the hustle is more "Gaga" than "Bee Gee."

Since the '70s, the hustle has evolved into a refined partner dance that's a close cousin to social dances like West Coast swing and salsa, and the music has changed with the times. Hustle's steady pulse lends itself to everything from '80s Madonna and Michael Jackson to '90s house music to Lady Gaga's latest release.

"I call it happy music," says Double H Club regular Linda Schaefer, a flight attendant and self-described disco queen from Tarzana who has been dancing the hustle since its beginnings. "I can be in all different moods, but I start listening to the hustle music, and it just makes me happy."

Debra Hampton, who has been teaching hustle lessons at the Double H for nearly a decade, agrees. "It's the music that brings you in," she says. She got her start in Manhattan disco clubs in the early '70s and brings a New York-style flair to her classes — her students affectionately call her the "Hustle Diva."

On nights when Hampton is away, lessons are taught by the reigning New York Latin hustle champions, Raul Santiago and Yesenia Serratos. Though many of the Double H's loyal hustle patrons are mature dancers reliving their disco days, Santiago and Serratos hope to introduce the dance to a new generation.

Serratos believes the hustle is ripe for a resurgence among young people. "Once they start dancing it, that's it," she says. "They love it!"

The pair's enthusiasm rubs off on dancers like Anthony Marino, 29, of San Pedro, who added the hustle to his repertoire after learning salsa. "If you think about" the hustle,Looking for Juicy couture wholesale? he says, "it's kind of cheesy, like the '70s. But when you see people do it, it's this really good fusion of salsa and ballroom dancing."

The hustle, which has roots in Latin movement, now bleeds into Latin dance Friday nights at the Double H. Santiago teaches an intermediate hustle lesson sandwiched between lessons in salsa, cha-cha and bachata.

Friday nights attract women in their best dresses and high heels, but the dedicated Wednesday hustle nights are low-key. Gone are the gold lamé pantsuits and outrageous platforms from the disco era. Men and women turn up in jeans or black pants and sensible dance sneakers.

The attitude of the hustle, puma shoes is the first company in the world to put a value on the ecosystem services it uses to produce its sports shoes and clothes. however, remains intact. Resident DJ Cesar Ricuarte describes it as "sensual, showy, sexy..The newest and cheap true religion jeans sale in stock on true religion brand jeans outlet store... Miss Teen Maryland International emphasizes community involvement

For 15-year-old Margo Huffman, of Westminster, community service is nothing short of a lifestyle.

She's volunteered for the American Heart Association, Stacy Davis Breast Cancer Fund, Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation, Rape Crisis Intervention Service, 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program, welcome to come cheap coogi jeans men from china store. Margo acts as a liaison to connect individuals with opportunities to volunteer with services she has partnered with,Nike shox running shoes take it all the appearance that a because should be searching for. such as America's Promise Impact Network and Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation.

Margo was crowned Miss Teen Maryland International this spring and she said she wants to use that platform to expand her charity.

"I want to show [people] that you don't have to be perfect, famous, or even grown to make a difference," she said.

She said pageantry has been a good influence, even though it wasn't always for her. "I competed in some pageants when I was little, but when I threw a temper tantrum on stage, my parents decided pageants weren't for me, until about a year ago when I decided to compete [again].If you are looking wear to buy sexy Knee High Boots the you have arrive.

"What I love most about the Teen International Pageant system," Margo said, "is the importance of having a platform, mine being Margo's M.O.D.E.L.S., and showcasing the accomplishments of teens like myself."

Margo said she especially loves volunteering with the Johns Hopkins Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation.

Believe In Tomorrow provides hospital and respite housing services to critically ill children and their families, as well as hands-on experiences and adventures for critically ill children across the United States.I never thought I'd have the opportunity to sell shoes for women, but it seemed to be the right move considering my circumstances.

"Margo began volunteering for Believe In Tomorrow just two years ago by selling handmade earrings and using the proceeds to purchase beach toys for the Believe In Tomorrow House by the Sea," said Kate Sachs, Believe in Tomorrow's events coordinator. "She regularly spends time at the Believe In Tomorrow Children's House at Johns Hopkins doing just about everything - cleaning, crafts and activities, jewelry-making, pumpkin-painting, cooking and baking cookies for holidays."

Margo's mother, Robyn Huffman, said, "I think the thing that sticks with me the most is when a mom thanked Margo and myself for helping her daughter feel like a normal kid again ... and Margo was simply playing ball, Barbie dolls and air hockey with her."

Sachs said Margo volunteered at the 28th Annual Benefit and Auction last November and in March she hosted her first dinner for families at the Believe In Tomorrow Children's House.

"It is hard for many to imagine that someone so young has accomplished so many great achievements," said Sachs. "This is one truly dedicated Believe In Tomorrow volunteer."

Margo saw her first example of volunteerism at age 2, when she was pulled in a wagon by her parents to complete the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. "I don't think we ever pushed community service," her mother said. "It just came natural."

In March, instead of having a traditional birthday party, Margo opted to hold a birthday benefit for the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation. Guests were asked not to bring a birthday present, but a minimum $10 donation for Believe In Tomorrow.

"The Ladies Auxiliary at the [Westminster] American Legion was so generous to donate an area to hold the event," Margo said. "We had a band called Foggy May, an eight-pound cake and lots of food, music and more."

Margo's efforts paid off when she presented a check for $500 to the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation.

Margo's life goals are as big as her volunteer work. She plans to attend Johns Hopkins University after high school and become a pediatric oncologist. "I'm considering this career because of my grandmother, a breast cancer survivor, and because of my love for younger children," she said.

"Volunteerism has allowed me to meet such a variety of people and to truly connect with organizations, families and individuals," Margo said.

"Growing up in a Christian family, it was normal to take meals to sick families or lend a helping hand," Robyn Huffman said. "I guess it's being passed down from my husband's family and my family and now onto Margo."

Interview: Mike Mills

He may be wearing what's become the uniform for young directors – Converse sneakers,Shopping is the best place to comparison shop for Gucci men shoes. sports jacket and jeans – but Mike Mills's film is wholly unique.

It's got a soulful story about a young man, Oliver (Ewan McGregor), whose father's death sends him into an emotional tailspin, a talking dog (more on that later) and another spectacular performance from Christopher Plummer – as a queer man.

As Hal, Oliver's father, seen in flashback as he comes out of the closet after his wife dies, Plummer is riveting.

Oscar time, maybe?

“You're fantasizing,” says Mills, blue eyes flashing while he relaxes in a room at the new Ritz-Carlton. “This movie's a little small for that.”

Not that he wouldn't wish it for the Canadian icon, who was amazingly oLooking for Juicy couture wholesale?pen to the ideas of a young filmmaker.

“At a certain point, I was shooting the film and realized, ‘Oh he's actually listening to me,'” he says.

“It was obvious that he's really interested in getting better as an actor. How many 79-year-old actors” – Plummer's age at the time of shooting – “can you say that about?”

While Plummer gave him confidence in his abilities, the movie itself expanded on Mills's own process of grieving. He says the story grasps the moment of grief when you develop a strange sense that you can be irresponsible. You start doing things you couldn't imagine doing in other circumstances.

And he would know – Beginners is an autobiographical piece about losing his dad.

“A lot of it was personal. My parents married in 1955, and the photo of the church I use in the film was actually taken by my father,” he says. There is surely some disadvantage of Nike shox classic. “And my father did come out after my mother died. And we connected more than we ever did before.”

Like Oliver, Mills has designed album covers, in his case for Beastie Boys, Beck and Sonic Youth. He's also made music videos for Moby and Yoko Ono.puma shoes is the first company in the world to put a value on the ecosystem services it uses to produce its sports shoes and clothes.

Don't assume that being an independent filmmaker gives you artistic freedom. He says his experience making music videos gave him more control over the product.

“People think that when you make independent films, you're an auteur and you can do what you want. But the truth is you're a slave to capitalism. There is a good site to wholesale air max at a lower price. You have to sell the film to somebody, and people are going to buy tickets to it.

“When I make a music video, I can use my own ideas – the artists often don't even collaborate and sometimes don't appear in the video at all.”

In Beginners, however, he did make decisions that only an indie filmmaker could get away with. For example, the emotionally challenged Oliver can only get to the next level of intimacy with his dog, who talks back in subtitles.

“That was part of the sense of irresponsibility that goes with grieving,” Mills explains, when I ask why he took that risk. “In a way, I thought, ‘Fuck it, I'll do what I want.'

“And I loved the fact that dogs are so much more trusting than most people.”
