Magnolia, a boutique-style clothing store, opened last week in Stewart Square. The owners, Peter and Tamar Lask, hope to give area residents something they haven't been able to get locally for some time.
They are also the owners of the Uptown shop, Juniper. But their new shopping endeavor will be focused on a wider clientele.

Already, the Lasks have seen the need for their new store. Peter Lask has spoken with customers who have been looking for a local place with great clothes without the long drive to Kenwood or Tri-County malls.
“Ever since Lazarus closed, something has been missing for the local folks, more than the Miami students,” he said. “We feel this is an opportunity to serve those areas.”
Magnolia's merchandise includes clothing, shoes and accessories that are not as age-specific as Juniper. However, Magnolia still offers what many Juniper lovers adore. “It's still a work in progress,” said Tamar Lask, adding that everything should be completed by this fall.
The atmosphere is complete with individual attention given to each customer, if they want it that is. Tamar Lask says her employees are anything but pushy.
“That's one thing about this store,” she said. “You can go into the fitting room and have the personalized attention that you would expect in a boutique.”
So far, the pair has heard nothing but positive feedback. Magnolia has been compared to boutiques normally found at vacation spots and its merchandise has been compared to the popular clothing store Anthropolgie.
“Our job is to make people feel good as they leave,” Tamar Lask said.
