Get convictions at trials of a historical nature

Robert Wayne Masters was sentenced on Thursday to two years less a day in jail for sexually abusing two boys nearly three decades ago.

But the boys, now men, were long ago sentenced to a lifetime of torment.

"I once was an innocent boy; smart,Enjoy our selection of discounted iwcwatchesshop. polite, respectful and good in sports," but Masters tore all of that away, one of them told a Brantford court.

Reading a prepared victim impact statement at Masters's sentencing hearing, the man, now in his late 30s, told the court that the physical and psychological pain inflicted on him as a youngster continues to profoundly affect his life.

"I have to put a mask on every day and pretend everything is fine," he said, his words faltering as emotion threatened to overwhelm him.

"I want my childhood innocence back and I'll never get it."

Masters, 66, formerly of Paris,Buy the latest fashionable women's shoesbb, and a one-time minor hockey coach, pleaded guilty in July to one count each of indecent assault and sexual interference. The crimes, both committed against young boys, took place in the 1980s.

Court heard earlier that one boy was about 11 when the abuse began, although Masters's grooming of the boy through friendship had begun several years earlier. The abuse included fondling and oral sex and the complainant estimated that between 240 and 310 incidents occurred over a period of five to six years.

Court heard that Masters admitted to multiple incidents but disagreed that they took place weekly.

The abuse was life-changing for the victim.

"For years after, all people saw was an aggressive, reckless, temperamental person with a chip on his shoulder and a short fuse," he told the court.

Although people now tell him to let it go, he cannot, he said. And, although he appears on the outside to be doing well, he is haunted by his past.

"If they only knew.Nothing flatters the foot like a beautifully made sandalguccishoes. I don't think anyone would want to walk a single day in my shoes. I'm just a shell of a man," he said.

The crime against the second complainant also took place in the early 1980s and involved Masters forcing the boy to engage in a sex act.

The sentence of two years less one day was presented to the court as a joint submission from Crown and defence.

Assistant Crown attorney Derek Zuraw noted that the proposed sentence was at the "very low end of the range" for a case involving the ongoing sexual abuse of children.

But Masters's guilty pleas avoided the necessity of the victims having to testify at a trial,Panerai replica watches, cheaprolexwatches, replica omega, he said, adding that it can be difficult to get convictions at trials of a historical nature.

Sexual abuse of children results in an "all encompassing emotional agony" and a lifetime of emotional consequences, Zuraw said.

Defence counsel John Renwick said that Masters had done good and bad during his life.
