More than sixty leading Indian firms are set to display their
products and services in first ever two-day "Indian trade show" from
tomorrow here.
"The first-ever India Show in Dhaka is an
exhibition which aims to take the India-Bangladesh business relationship
to the next level to forge substantive mutually rewarding
partnerships," the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said in a statement
here on Sunday.
It said the event would "explore opportunities,
build synergies and examine joint investment proposals by business
houses on both sides".
Indian government offered assistance for
the event being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (FICCI) with their Bangladesh counterpart FBCCI
and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) being
partners in the event.
FICCI officials said the Indian companies

Over
100 makeshift stalls and pavilions were erected to showcase the
products and services at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre
(BICC) complex.
Organisers said seminars on investment
opportunities and B2B sessions were to be staged on the sidelines of the
exhibition to find out ways for enhanced bilateral business cooperation
and increased investments.
They said special feature of the
India Show is the exhibition of Indian Gems & Jewellery organised by
the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The trade show came as Indian government and businesses asked Bangladesh to explore opportunities for joint venture projects.
"We
(India) offered you the duty free access to your all products two years
ago but compared to what we thought export (from Bangladesh) did not
increase that much," Deputy High Commissioner of India here Sandeep
Chakravarty told a curtain raiser ceremony of a planned "India Show"
earlier this week.
According to commerce ministry statistics,
the bilateral trade gap of Bangladesh with India was USD 4.08 billion in
2010-11 fiscal year with Indian exports amounting for USD 4.5 billion.
Financial
analysts say Bangladesh's export to India is also gradually improving
and reached half a billion dollars in 2010-11 from USD 358 million in
2007-08 and USD 289 million in 2006-07.
The trade deficit
between India and Bangladesh more than doubled in just five years,
reflecting a galloping economic imbalance between the two close
neighbours.
