Thai red-shirt leader vows to respect polls
The key leaders of Thailand's anti-government red shirts are rejoining the movement, having just been released on bail after nine months in prison.
All of the group's leaders were arrested and jailed on terrorism charges after mass rallies in Bangkok were dispersed by the army last May.
They've been released on the condition that they don't incite civil unrest ahead of the one year anniversary of the beginning of the protests next weekend and a forthcoming election.

The Washington Post reports on a major development in the probe of last year's fatal blast at a West Virginia coal mine.
"The security chief of Massey Energy's Upper Big Branch mine was arrested Monday and charged with obstructing the investigation into an explosion last year that killed 29 miners, the first criminal charges stemming from the worst U.S. mining disaster in 40 years," the paper reports.
"Hughie Elbert Stover, who also headed security at two other Massey operations, was indicted last week by a federal grand jury in West Virginia on charges of lying to the FBI and trying to dispose of key documents. The indictment was unsealed Monday."
In Utah, an environmental activist is on trial for messing with an oil-and-gas lease sale – and apparently becoming a hero to some in the process.
"Hundreds of activists marched to the federal courthouse Monday to support a man who became an environmental folk hero by faking the purchase of $1.7 million of federal oil-and-gas drilling leases in an act of civil disobedience," the Associated Press reports from Salt Lake City.
"Tim DeChristopher, 29, has pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court to felony counts of interfering with and making false representations at a government auction," the story states,"When guys come across the middle, we want them to know they're going to get hit," said safety Chris Harris. "We're going to try and punish you for catching the ball, if you catch it. "He (Bayne) has got a tremendous awareness in the car," said Eddie Wood, co-owner of the No.21 car. "The great ones are like that."
Sunday's Daytona 500 was notable for both a record number of lead changes (74) and caution flags (16). Bayne stayed out of trouble-a 14-car wreck wiped out several favorites early.
Pearson, a longtime master of not leading until the end of the race as Bayne did Sunday, advised Bayne to be careful before the race began. "I told him to keep his head straight and not to do anything crazy," said.
The racing at this year's Daytona 500 was dominated by cars breaking away two at a time, and Bayne was generally a "pusher" throughout the race.
But he found himself in the front for the final laps after a series of caution flags and held off every charge with the aid of a very fast car.

Church clothes closet helps area residents stay warm
Warm clothing on a cold February morning attracted families from around Mont-gomery on Saturday and the best part was the price -- free.
The inaugural clothing giveaway sponsored by Unity United Church of Christ on Oxford Drive was a big success as church members pitched in to help in any way they could.For some time, women have bid farewell to the days when women handbags were just used for 'functional reasons'.
Some greeted area resi-dents inside the church, while others helped those in need of a helping hand take items to their vehicles.
The Rev. Bennie Liggins said his wife, Gloria, came up with the clothes closet idea. He said it was the latest in a series of community-ori-ented programs to help peo-ple.
"We get a lot of calls for help because of the econo-my, and we do all we can to help those who need a lift," said Liggins. "We hope to continue this in the years to come."
The clothes closet offered everything from slippers to dresses, but most of the coats were gone before Sat-urday's event began.
"It's still cold and people contact us all the time for subsistence and clothes,Some of the ed hardy hats DC created on the knitting machine." he said. "I believe that you shouldn't have a church un-less you're feeding some-body or offering them warm clothing on cold days."
Liggins said his church has only 87 members, but continues to grow and will be remodeled in one area to provide a shelter for those who need it during cold win-ter days and the heat of the summer.Some of the ed hardy hats DC created on the knitting machine.
"We're a small church but we've got a huge Bible study program," said Liggins, who added that his house of wor-ship once was a dress shop that was converted to ac-commodate church activi-ties. "Our focus is on minis-try and it will continue that way."
He said his church has a "strong mentoring pro-gram" that provides educa-tional assistance as well as medical help for those who cannot afford it.

Russians barely flinch after airport bombing
A brief postscript from Monday's airport bombing in Moscow, which I covered here.
If the terrorist's aim is to provoke an overreaction, give the Russians credit for barely flinching.
Air traffic at Domodedovo airport was interrupted for only 20 minutes. According to eyewitness reports, airline crews and passengers in the adjacent arrival and departure lounges did not even realize that a bombing had taken place!
Think about that. Imagine for a minute that a similar attack had occurred at, say, Chicago's O'Hare or Los Angeles International, and what the American reaction would have been like. For hours after the blast, flights would have been halted and roadways blocked off. The entire terminal would have been closed for weeks. Tens of thousands of people would be canceling their airline reservations, and media coverage would be in absolute overdrive, fanning the flames for days.
And, of course, TSA and the rest of the Security Machine would be licking their chops in anticipation of all the new rules and restrictions to come.it was the musical equivalent of a midlife crisis, like when your dad thinks he's “hip” by wearing ed hardy jeans.
Far-fetched? I really don't think so.
Perhaps the Russians were playing it a bit too casual, but we should draw from their example if and when the time comes.
