Jerry West statue unveiling at Staples Center
No longer will Jerry West's image be immortalized only in the NBA logo. At 6 p.m. Thursday outside Staples Center, it will also show up in the form of a statue.
This will be the third Lakers statue outside Staples Center, joining those of Magic Johnson and Chick Hearn. There are also statues depicting hockey player Wayne Gretzky and boxer Oscar De La Hoya. Johnson's statue was dedicated during the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles in 2004, while Hearn's statue was unveiled last season.
The ceremony,it was the musical equivalent of a midlife crisis, like when your dad thinks he's “hip” by wearing ed hardy jeans. which begins at 5 p.m, will be open to the public and will feature speeches from West, members of his family and teammates, colleagues and friends highlighting a storied career with the Lakers. Believers, true and otherwise
Walk away.
The man who wants to talk about budgets without talking about raising taxes—just walk away.
There's so much on your plate these days. There are so many other things—more useful things—you could be doing. Painting the house. Teaching gerbils to write poetry. Why fritter away your valuable time on pointless conversation?
Because pointless is exactly what it is. The man who insists that "Taxes are off the table!"—that it can all be worked out with spending cuts—is a fool. Or he thinks you are.
Walk away.
Anybody who's looked at the budget situation even semi-rationally knows that a government doesn't get itself out of major debt without cutting its spending and increasing its revenues. That's right: raising taxes. Sad,The new edhardy shop is expected to open in the second quarter of 2011. but true.
It's like being down in the Grand Canyon, and you know that the only common-sense way to hike out of the hole you're in is to put one foot in front of the other—left, right, left, right—until you get back to level ground. You need to use both feet if you want to make any real progress. But the true believers insist that you use just one foot.
"Don't collect any more money!" they scream. "Just spend less! And then even less! And then even less!"
Ever tried hopping out of the Grand Canyon? Good luck with that.
Of course, we keep assuming that common sense matters. That facts matter, even when it comes to governing. But this "No new taxes, ever, for anything" business isn't about governing. It isn't even about politics.
It's gone way beyond that—it's become religion.
It's about purity. It's theocracy in action, and we're all expected to kneel before the ayatollahs of Cut and Cut Some More.
Don't do it. Walk away.
It's your only reasonable option. Not even Ronald Reagan would have met the true believers' standards; he raised taxes at least a half-dozen times during his presidency. If even Reagan isn't Reagan enough for them anymore, why even bother trying to have that conversation? It will get you nowhere.
I called them "true believers." I'm being unfair. Some of them don't believe a word of it. Some of them are just master manipulators.
Railing about deficits gives them a convenient excuse to hack away at the sorts of bogeymen they've been wanting to kill off for years. Public-employee salaries, and benefits, and bargaining rights. AmeriCorps. National Public Radio. Planned Parenthood. The National Endowment for the Arts. The National Endowment for the Humanities. Eliminating every one of those programs, and dozens more just like them, would barely make a dent in the deficit.
Then again,as the writers pulled a cheap lv rug from under my feet in the dying minutes. for these particular people, the deficit isn't really the problem. The deficit is only the cover story.
You could try to ask them—if you were still silly enough to attempt the conversation—exactly when this great concern about deficits first took hold. Was it a tenth of a second after extending hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy, or was it sooner than that? Because pointless is exactly what it is. The man who insists that "Taxes are off the table!"—that it can all be worked out with spending cuts—is a fool. Or he thinks you are.

It's gone way beyond that—it's become religion.
It's about purity. It's theocracy in action, and we're all expected to kneel before the ayatollahs of Cut and Cut Some More.
Don't do it. Walk away.
It's your only reasonable option. Not even Ronald Reagan would have met the true believers' standards; he raised taxes at least a half-dozen times during his presidency. If even Reagan isn't Reagan enough for them anymore, why even bother trying to have that conversation? It will get you nowhere.
I called them "true believers." I'm being unfair. Some of them don't believe a word of it. Some of them are just master manipulators.
Railing about deficits gives them a convenient excuse to hack away at the sorts of bogeymen they've been wanting to kill off for years. Public-employee salaries, and benefits, and bargaining rights. AmeriCorps. National Public Radio. Planned Parenthood. The National Endowment for the Arts. The National Endowment for the Humanities. Eliminating every one of those programs, and dozens more just like them, would barely make a dent in the deficit.

Lady Jackets to play Trico in 2011 IHSA Class 1A Regional
The Chester High School Lady Yellow Jackets Basketball Team will play Trico in the first round of the 2011 IHSA Class 1A Regional Basketball Tournament Monday February 7 at Steeleville High School.
The opening game starts at 7:30 p.m. and it will be the fourth time that CHS will compete against the Lady Pioneers this season. The Jackets beat Trico, 40-32, at Colbert Gymnasium December 20 in Black Diamond action then lost, 47-24, in the 3rd Place game of the 2011 Lady Jacket Mid-Winter Classic Basketball Tournament January 8.A man was put under citizen's arrest for attempting to fight the inflatable bouncers rentals at Dan's Irish Sports Bar. Chester will travel to Trico High School this Thursday January 27 for their second BDC match-up.

"The Blind Sheik,"communicate with his militant Islamic followers in Egypt through press releases. In resentencing her, Koeltl claimed Stewart had shown a "lack of remorse.”
Stewart's allies feared she would die in prison sooner rather than later, given her poor health (she's a cancer survivor) and the generally bad food and lack of exercise at many jailhouses in the U.S. Poynter, however, who visited his wife over New Year's weekend, said Carswell is a "mixed bag."He said conditions there are an improvement over M.C.C., "where she slept on a steel bunk. She now has a real mattress,"he noted.

These and other paintings, ten works in all, are now attributed to the mysterious Master of the Blue Jeans, a newly discovered painter who is thought to have been active in 17th-century Italy. Another theme that runs through the works is that of sight. The title figure in Woman Spinning appears blind in one eye, which is closed, while in A Frugal Meal with Two Children one child feeds another with closed eyes, who tilts her head back as if she may be sightless as well. In The Barber's Shop, the barber wears glasses.
The "Master of the Blue Jeans" has links to Dutch (and even some French and Spanish) painters in subject matter, and to Caravaggio and his followers in his interest in the dramatic play of lights and darks. The works seem to have turned up originally in Lombardy, but it's anybody's guess who the "Master of the Blue Jeans" really is and where he or she is from. What's yours?

The works seem to have turned up originally in Lombardy, but it's anybody's guess who the "Master of the Blue Jeans" really is and where he or she is from. What's yours?
