Bowling Championship ends, tourism dollars remain

Some of the best bowlers in the country spent their time and money in Syracuse over the past three months. The USBC Women's Championship Tournament ended Sunday, but organizers and competitors are already talking about returning to the Oncenter.The Haunting ladiesshoes Movie Review.

Roughly 30,000 women making up 6,000 teams traveled across the country to compete.
One team, the Sexy Ladies, came all the way from Greenville, South Carolina.

While shopping may have served the needs of competitors visiting the area, flexibility was the key attraction for Eric Pierson, who manages this tournament for the United States Bowling Congress. He estimates a $40 million payoff for cities that host the Women's Championships.
"As far as getting everything moved in and built and off and running, [it] was just seamless,” said Pierson. “It was really smooth and I think it just really helped us. It sets the tone for the tournament and it was a good relationship."
Construction for the event began in late February. Pierson says the USBC is having a hard time finding cities that will host an event for so long. Since things went so well here in Syracuse, they're already talking about coming back with a bigger event that will bring in twice as much money.
"There's twice as many bowlers for The Open. So, that economic impact can sometimes range $90 million,” said Pierson.
