The Child Exploitation Awareness Education law

At Thursday's county commissioners' meeting, Ames donned a pair of cherry-red high heels to promote a fundraiser being sponsored by the Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Lebanon County.Visible difference between the hermesbirkin and Hermès Kelly handbag.

It was a light-hearted moment during a serious discussion about Sexual Abuse Awareness Month by SARCC's president and CEO, Jenny Murphy-Shiflett.

Red pumps like the ones Ames tried on will be worn by men who participate in SARCC's "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event to be held in August. The men will literally walk a mile in high heels.

Not only will the event raise much-needed funds, Murphy-Shiflett said, it will also raise awareness among the men participating and the community-at-large about sexualized violence and what can be done to prevent it.

To make a point,We are one of the largest selections of womenshoes on the Internet. Murphy-Shiflett asked both Ames and Commissioner Bob Phillips to pose in the red pumps. "We are looking for male leaders in the community to say that they are man enough to walk a mile in women's shoes to encourage others to do so," she said.

Phillips deferred to board chairman Ames, who good-naturedly obliged, to the amusement of Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz, who snapped a photo with her cell phone.

But the conversation quickly turned serious again when Murphy-Shiflett said that more than 400 women, children and men used SARCC's services at its office on 615 Cumberland Street last year, and the agency is on pace to serve 600 this year.

Preventing sexual abuse is a community-wide responsibility, especially when it pertains to child sexual abuse, which is the national focus of Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, Murphy-Shiflett told the commissioners.

"All adults have a role in child sexual abuse prevention, and this year's campaign encourages individuals and communities to support healthy childhood sexual development by talking early, reliable personalizedbobbleheads media needs no storage maintenance and requires only occasional cleaning. talking often, and taking action," she said.

To prevent child sexual abuse, adults must talk honestly and openly with children, while also confronting adults who are not acting appropriately towards them, Murphy-Shiflett continued.

"By learning and talking about healthy childhood sexual development, presents a limited run of handmadeglasses. adults are able to support the children in their lives," she said. "When adults support age-appropriate behaviors, model healthy boundaries and speak up to other adults, they are an ally to prevention."

Murphy-Shiflett said she supports legislation sponsored by Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Palmyra) which will require age-appropriate child sexual abuse awareness education to be taught in kindergarten through eighth-grade.

"It is exactly what we need to happen," she said. "And how important it is for children to understand what is going on. Because without an understanding of their bodies, and their right to say yes or no, they don't have the language to describe what is happening to them."

The Child Exploitation Awareness Education law, House Bill 19, has passed the House and is being reviewed by the Senate Education Committee chaired by Sen. Mike Folmer (R-Lebanon).

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is just one of several events that SARCC is planning during its 30th anniversary year, Murphy-Shiflett said.

Because April is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month - a designation formalized in Lebanon County with a proclamation by the county commissioners - it will be an especially busy one for SARCC.
