The majority of the girls are wards of the state

More than 130 unique, hand-crafted birdhouses will be on display at the 18th annual Project Return Birdhouse Auction to raise funds for agency programs and services for girls who have been victims of abuse and neglect.I assumed that all eight of you knew how to make the steelbracelet.

The birdhouse, a safe place where migrating birds find protective shelter,Browse all Instagram photos tagged with replicashoes. is an ideal symbol for Project Return. The Westport-based non-profit organization serves as a way station for troubled girls while they repair their lives and ultimately to make their way back home to a more settled life.

"The majority of the girls are wards of the state who were given up by their families. The Department of Children and Families partially funds the group home for the girls, but we rely on grants and donations and the birdhouse auction is our largest fundraising event," said Laura Bard, Project Return communications and development director. "Fund-raising has never been more important because of the escalating costs of providing high-quality, 24-hour-a-day care for seven girls."

Project Return services include: a residential program consisting of 24-hour a day support in a group home setting for girls ages 14-21 who have been victims of abuse and neglect; an aftercare program that provides emotional support and financial assistance for past residents who are living independently: a transitional living program with housing and case management for young women in need of supportive services; and HEAL (Health, Empathy, Altruism, Love), an after-school community service program for at-risk teens that promotes the development of self-esteem through volunteer service to others.

More than 500 guests have attended each annual auction and over 2,Find High Quality Brand Name tungstenring and Tungsten Wedding Bands for Men at the Best Prices.400 birdhouses have been contributed by artists from throughout the United States, generating over $1 million to benefit Project Return. At last year's auction, $100,000 was raised.

"The event is appealing because it gives people a real personal connection and creates awareness of Project Return," said Bard. "We always have one of our former residents speak at the Bird House Auction.I had the idea of being energy independent by putting up a shoesmanufacturer and making some electricity,"

The auction committee is anticipating another successful year with the decision to move the event, traditionally held on a Friday evening, to a Saturday night.

An wide variety of materials, including porcelain, wood, shells, tree bark, metal, yarn, clay, and glass are used to showcase each artist's vision of the birdhouse.

"The creativity of the artists is amazing. We have birdhouses made of Pez candy, paint cans, bicycle parts," said Bard. "There's a swan made from 51,000 tiny beads. We have a record for a owonsmart living at an address. The artists really are wonderful people."

Some of this year's designs are personal and contemplative, such as Westporter Amy Chaple's "We Remember Sandy Hook", while others, such as Weston artist Drew Klotz's "Chick Flick", using old sewing machine parts, are whimsical and fun. Entries are traditional and contemporary, designed for indoor and outdoor use; and all reflect themes of beginning, welcome, and sanctuary. Beside birdhouses, the eclectic collection on display will include numerous paintings, framed photographs, jewelry, lamps, coasters, and quilts.

In addition to the birdhouses and art, live and silent auction items will include: Trips, including a seven night stay in a 3 bedroom condo at Palm Springs' LaQuinta Resort and Club, and an evening in New York City with a car service, dinner, and tickets to the David Letterman Show.
