Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall

Folks on the east coast are bracing for one of the biggest storms to hit that area in decades.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall Monday evening and one north Iowa family is watching the storm's path especially close for good reason.Official site of OMEGA watches. Manufacturer of prestige replicawatches00.

Mark and Kathy McCarthy of Mason City have a particular interest in hurricane sandy. That's because one of their daughters, Sarah, is currently living in Washington, DC. That's making for a somewhat stressful next couple of days.

“I figured it was going to get kind of nasty out there from what they were saying I follow the news quite a bit,” said Mark McCarthy, Sarah’s father.

Mark says so far his daughter is reacting to the news just like he would expect.

“She doesn't seem real concerned about it and I think she's going to get surprised a little bit,” Mark said.

That surprise could show up tonight.

“The winds are starting to pick up but I think we're going to see it start to get worse as the day goes on,” said Sarah McCarthy.

Sarah, who is a former KIMT intern, is spending a college semester in the nation’s capital but didn't realize this would be part of the experience.

“People are staying home, not going to work, not going to school,Wholesale authenticmonclerjackets,Semi precious agate gemstone beads, all the public schools are shut down, a lot of the universities have cancelled classes for today and tomorrow,” Sarah said.

Sandy is packing 90 mile an hour winds with gusts up to 115.What we see and hear enough of, we buy christianlouboutinshoe into – often. The storm is also expected to drop between 5 and 8 inches of rain in some spots over the next two days forcing people to prepare for the worst.

“My roommate and I we went to the grocery store yesterday to buy bottled water and flashlights and I guess we were a little too late because everything was gone,” Sarah said.

Sarah says DC could be without power for up to a week but hopes they're able to ride it out safely, something her father agrees with.

“It's just going to be one of life's experiences basically and we all have to go through it,” Mark said.

Sandy's strong winds had already knocked power out for half a million customers as of Monday afternoon. In addition, forecasters say the full moon will make storm surges worse as high tides along the eastern seaboard will rise about 20 percent higher than normal.

Some folks around here are doing what they can to help with the massive power outages expected from sandy. Alliant Energy is sending more than 100 employees to help restore power along the east coast.Full range of cheappanerai available to buy online with 0% finance,
