7.52am: The Rocks police duty officer, Acting Inspector Andrew Biasi, said the 25-year-old P-plate driver charged with drink driving was pulled over because of his "manner of driving".

"It wasn't erratic, [but] it was his manner of driving.

"Then when they pulled him over, [police] could smell liquor."

The plants were stolen from a house on Nicole Road, Primbee, a suburb of Wollongong, between 11pm on Sunday and 6am yesterday.

6.54am: A P-plater has been charged and stripped of his licence after allegedly drivingcheapwatches to Intervention Online Software. with a blood-alcohol level of 0.172 in the city this morning.

The 25-year-old was stopped for a random breath test in Goulburn Street about 4am and returned a positive reading, police said.

Police said he was arrested and taken to The Rocks police station, where he allegedly gave a reading of 0.172.

P-platers must have a zero blood-alcohol limit. A reading of 0.172 is more than three times the legal limit for drivers on a full licence.

The man from Redfern was charged with high-range drink driving and not display P-plates and his licence was suspended on the spot.

He was granted bail and will appear in Downing Centre Local Court on September 18.
