Event aims to raise awareness of sexual assault, gender violence

The men shared laughs and complained of sore feet after walking in heels Wednesday, but they knew their discomfort was just temporary.

Dozens of men turned out for the second annual Take A Walk In Her Shoes event to raise awareness of rape,Replica Designer marc jacobs shoes on hot sale! sexual assault and gender violence. The walk, which was moved inside at Ohio University-Chillicothe's Shoemaker Center because of the weather, is part of an international network of awareness walks.

This year, the walk's message was to motivate people to act when they see something such as someone slipping an unknown substance into a drink.

"If you see something suspicious, speak up before something happens," said Jamie Myers, nurse coordinator of Adena Health System's Sexual Assault Response Team.

The case is one of 12 that Adena's team has been part of in April alone. Since April 20, 2010, the team has worked 114 cases across 13 counties, Myers said. The youngest victim of the cases was 10 months old, and the oldest was 79.

The sexual assault response team has been in place at Adena since 2001 and serves people across southeastern Ohio.
