Girls soccer: Tigers shut out Toreadors in home opener

When Dan Jones grew up, the sport of soccer had a totally different outlook in American culture.

“Soccer was a communist sport,” Jones said. “It was something Europeans played. Nobody really understood the sport around here.”

But when his daughters started playing soccer, Jones gained a whole new perspective.

“All of a sudden, they need a coach and they always look to the parents,” Jones said.let's be honest: putting on a brand new pair of Nike shox running shoes feels amazing. “I started reading about it, watching tapes and just learning everything that I could.”

Monday,we've already seen three classic Air max classic models in their flagship colorways release. Jones completed his soccer roundabout, as the first-year Gilbert head coach won his first regular-season home game, a 4-0 victory against Boone.

The Tigers are now 2-1 this season.

“This is a group of girls that’s hardcore into soccer,” Jones said. “They really love the game. It makes it very easy for me. It’s been a very easy transition.”

Jones spent the previous two seasons as an assistant to Bobby Myers,Gucci men shoes from the latest collection. who left in the offseason to take the same position at Ames High, his Alma matter.

“Bobby did such a great job setting this program up,” Jones said. “We had a great relationship, and we are still in contact now. He just had the opportunity to go back home, and we all understand that.

“If I were in his shoes, I would’ve done the same thing. But, for me, home is Gilbert.”

Jones has also added former Iowa State player Hannah Swanbom to his staff. It seems that jordan 6 rings in coming up for almost everyone including boys and girls.

“It’s like she knows everything about the sport of soccer,” senior Emma Nelson said. “You can definitely tell she has a passion for the sport and with all of her experience you know she knows what she is talking about. She’s been a huge help.”

Jones takes over a team that has three seniors and nine juniors.

“A lot of us have been playing forever; we are a pretty close team and I feel we keep getting better,Learn all of th facts you need to know before yopu shop for Juicy couture wholesale online.” junior Lizzy Welke said. “I feel like we are further along than we were last year.”

A remarkable feat, considering that the team has a new coach who has implemented a different style of play.

But while it took Gilbert a while to get going Monday, the team flaunted its potential.

Despite controlling possession of the ball, the Tigers failed to capitalize for most of the first half against the Toreadors.

Welke knocked in the first goal of the game just 4 minutes, 18 seconds before halftime.

“It was getting frustrating that we couldn’t score, but we just started playing better as a team,” Welke said. “Our passes got better and everything clicked. We finally executed everything right.”

It was just what Gilbert needed in its home opener.

“It seems it’s always like that with the first goal,” Nelson said. “You try to force it in and force it in and when you finally get one, then you can just go have fun and play soccer.”

Junior Michaela Gibson scored the second goal 6:24 into the second half, Nelson added another at 22:09 and junior Andrea Becker capped the scoring with a corner kick goal with 4:22 left in the game.

Gilbert goalie Amanda Gray didn’t get much pressure until late in the game, but was perfect on four saves.

“The one thing about this team is they do everything together,” Jones said. “They practice together; they play together; they do it all together. They have a great mindset, and we’re excited to see what we can do this season.”
