Meyer's Castle scene for couple who won wedding through contest

While final preparations were being made across the pond for the wedding extravaganza of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Northwest Indiana celebrated a royal wedding Thursday of its own.

Last month, WGN Channel 9 held a contest for viewers to win a $60,000 fairy tale wedding that would air live on WGN's Morning News.

Keeping with the royal theme, Meyer's Castle in Dyer was selected by WGN as the venue.

Samantha Perr, of WGN, said 239 couples entered the contest. WGN officials narrowed the pool to three finalists.

Shelly Manganiello and Joey Quinn won after Manganiello, who is from Worth, Ill., shared the couple's story.Wedge Shoes was created in order to maintain a balance of the athletes' movement. They've been together for four years and engaged for more than a year.

When they began discussing wedding plans, Quinn, who is a veteran of the U.S. Marines and Chicago police officer, was diagnosed with a rare esophageal disease. Medical bills and travel to Mayo Clinic for treatment and surgery depleted their wedding fund.

Viewers were able to cast votes on which of three couples should win and later were able to vote on all the details –- the dress, groom's formal wear, flowers, table settings, rings, menu and honeymoon destination.

Of course, few weddings go off without a hitch. The cool temperatures moved the ceremony inside. The best man was running late. A grandmother became lost on the way to the venue. And viewers from around Chicagoland tuned in to see it all.

Eight bridesmaids and groomsmen and a junior couple were part of the wedding party.Childs' collection of about 600 pairs of high heels is on display at the Yakima Valley Museum for the rest of this year.

"It's been hectic because it was all done so quickly," said Manganiello before the ceremony. "We found out a month ago that we won."

"She's been going crazy trying to do a year's worth of work in a month," he said.

Having so many important decisions out of her hands might concern some brides, but Manganiello said she was pleased with the viewers' choices.

"Everything has been beautiful," she said.

That included the hairstyle viewers selected for the bride, herself a professional hair stylist.

Manganiello was able to choose her own hairpiece, a tiara–styled veil by Sandra Badsing from Sandra's Designs and Shelley's Bridal of West Dundee, who also prepared a 9–yard–long veil shown on air that measured the same length as Princess Diana's.

Following a British tradition, the bride wore her grandmother's pearls to represent the "old" and "borrowed" to go with her new dress and blue shoes. And she struggled to secure a coin in her shoe, following the English tradition of inserting a sixpence into the left shoe for good luck.

"I told Joe to put one in his shoe," she said as she gave up.truereligion jeans and footwear available from Choice online at unbeatable prices with free next day delivery.

Among the friends and family who were there to see the couple wed was Chris Kobylarczyk, a friend and co–worker of the groom.

"This is a nice experience," he said. "They're both so excited. Joe said he's not nervous and seems calm, but I know I would be nervous. Getting married on television is a little different than a normal wedding."

As the bride entered and all eyes and cameras were on her, the groom smiled wide, shook his head and mouthed the words "Oh my gosh! Awesome!"

Friends and family broke out in laughter when Joe altered his vows to "for richer and mostly poorer."

As they walked down the aisle together after their first kiss as husband and wife, WGN reporter Ana Belaval revealed the surprise honeymoon spot selected by viewers -– Riu Palace in Riviera Maya,Thousands of discount ed hardy shoes styles for selection. Mexico.

"It was great," said Belaval, "They were a wonderful couple. They cried on cue. They were fun. They were in love. They looked fantastic. I think it was better than Kate and Will. We can all relate to Shelly and Joe."
