The start and finish locations for each day

Efforts to rejuvenate the enthusiasm towards cycling will continue on Thursday when the Crawford County Cycling Coalition will host a meeting to discuss the Manilla Madness cycling event and the attraction of RAGBRAI to Denison.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Gold Room at Cronk’s Cafe and is open to the public. Anyone interested in cycling is encouraged to attend.Photo of supra shoes for fans of hoganscarpe.

Kim Ingerslev, of the Cycling Coalition, stated that the meeting will be an informational discussion for Manilla Madness, a 26-mile, round-trip bicycle ride from Denison to Manilla and back.

The 2013 Manilla Madness ride will mark the second year the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County (CDC) has helped the coalition promote the event.

Ingerslev explained that the Manilla ride has grown in popularity each year since its birth and expects to see more riders yet this year.

“Each year,Choose Quality China shoessupplier from Large Database of China. we’ve had a couple of additional riders. Last year we had 50 or 60 riders and we are hoping to have that many, if not a little more this year,” Ingerslev said.

He explained the ride provides an enjoyable yet challenging event for bicyclists. Manilla Madness continues to be an annual event for the coalition because of its reception and the support it receives from not only the riders, but the City of Manilla as well.

“People in Manilla have been hosting us for the past couple of years and they’ve done a nice job,If you have never tried womenshoes you are in for a rare treat.” Ingerslev said.

The second item on the agenda is to discuss ways to continue to promote Crawford County to the RAGBRAI selection committee. In the past, Crawford County had a ban against organized cycling events but Ingerslev explained that the ban has been lifted.

The start and finish locations for each day are to be unveiled next week, with plans of the detailed route not expected until October. However, it is almost certain to feature the Yorkshire Dales, one of the region’s two national parks and a hotbed for cycling.

Beryl Burton, the world champion, started off riding here, as did the first ever Britain to win a stage of the Tour, Brian Robinson. Lizzie Armitstead, the first member of Team GB to win a medal last summer, hails from nearby Otley, while her fellow Olympians the Brownlee brothers attribute much of their success to punishing training in the Dales.

I had set off that morning on a rusty touring bike that is the wrong side of 30, with a pannier filled with the remains of a Christmas selection box. I’m not sure I belong alongside such sporting pedigree, but my plan was to cover some 80 miles of the Yorkshire Dales in two days to explore England’s newly crowned home of cycling.

I began my ride in the pretty town of Settle where the owner of a bike shop in the market place pumped up my tyres and offered a weather forecast for the next two days: “Horrible”. I sought solace in a glorious iced bun from the nearby Ye Olde Naked Man cafe, before reluctantly setting off. These were the dying days of the wettest year on record and the first drops of rain begin to fall within seconds.
