For some in the Midlands, that service work included washing the feet of children and providing them with new shocks and shoes. It was part of the Samaritan's Feet shoe distribution at Arden Elementary.

About 300 children at Arden had their feet washed and were given words of encouragement as they received new shoes.

Volunteers included student government and boys basketball players from Glenforest School, as well as the girls track team from the University of South Carolina. WACH FOX Sports director Brian McConchie also joined in to help get kids off on the right foot.

Samaritan's feet is holding more than 20 shoe distribution events nation-wide during the week following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, birthday.

"Martin Luther King, you know, as far as courage, and making sacrifice, and giving to others -- that is really the significance of why we are actually doing it today," said William Knopf, Glenforest School basketball coach.

Coach Knopf kicked off his shoes for the 4th Annual Barefoot Walk Friday, which is one of several fundraisers and awareness campaigns he's organized in the Midlands.

Miss Lee said: ‘We were all having a good time and having quite a few drinks, but I thought she was staying with her friend as all her clothes were there. I came home but had lost my door key so went to stay with a friend.
