Tigers win back Victory Bell in Bulldog defeat

Fifty-three years after Hemet High School took possession of the Victory Bell, the San Jacinto High School football team won the bell back last Friday when it defeated the Bulldogs 50-7.

“It means a lot to this community,” Powell said after being doused in a cooler’s worth of ice water.inflatable life jackets can inflate automatically when the life jacket hits the water. “It’s big.A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a long, stiff brim that may either be curved or flat. Last Friday’s game was the sixth game the Tigers and the Bulldogs have played since 1966 — the last year the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs. Hemet beat the Tigers in 1967 and took possession of the Victory Bell. The two teams did not play each other from 1967 to 2000, when the rivalry was revived. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers from 2000 to 2003 and maintained possession of the Victory Bell — until last Friday.

Matt Georgia, Hemet High School’s head coach, said everyone knew San Jacinto was going to be one of the top teams in the Mountain Pass League this year.

“San Jacinto’s a good team,” Georgia said. “Hats off to them.”

He said, although his team lost, he was proud of the effort that his team put forth.

“Our guys really were ready to play,” Georgia said.

He said many of his athletes played out of position due to injuries that have plagued the Bulldogs all season.

For the Tigers, much of the night belonged to freshman Malik Kimbrough.

Kimbrough racked up 190 yards on 13 carries, leading the Tigers’ running game.

Powell praised Kimbrough for his play and said his team’s running game was successful against the Bulldogs.

The Tigers had 462 rushing yards on 39 carries and 107 receiving yards on six catches.

Meanwhile, Hemet could not seem to get an offense going. The Bulldogs finished the game with 134 yards of total offense.

Hemet tried to get a passing offense started, using two quarterbacks, Sean McGivney and Brett Duffy.

Duffy was at the helm when the Bulldogs completed four passes and ran the ball three times in a series that ended in a touchdown for Hemet with 1:36 left to play. Duffy scored on a two-yard quarterback sneak.

San Jacinto was first on the board with a touchdown on a one-yard run from Noah Widgins.

Widgins added one more touchdown on a 25-yard run in the third quarter.

Tevin Newborn went 41 yards on a pass from Kevn “KC” Clark with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

After a three-and-out possession by the Bulldogs, the Tigers scored on a three-yard run from Kevin Gardener with 11:12 left in the first half.

Clark had two consecutive touchdowns for the Tigers — one in the second quarter and one in the third — on three- and 35-yard runs.

The Tigers got a safety when Duffy was back in the red zone to punt a ball.inflatable mattress bed is a private company categorized under Inflatable Beds and located in Brookhaven, PA. San Jacinto kicker Will Mondragon kicked two field goals, one 42 yards and the other 31 yards in the third and fourth quarters, to round out the Tigers’ 50 points.

San Jacinto had plans for the Victory Bell, including a coat of black and orange paint.

“We’re going to paint that thing first thing on Monday!” Powell said.

Hemet will host Tahquitz High School, which is also 0-4 in league play, Thursday.

San Jacinto will host Citrus Hill at 7 p.m. Friday for the final Mountain Pass League game.

Powell said Citrus has been improving every week and the Tigers would have to work hard all week to prepare themselves for the game.

“We have an opportunity to play for at least a part of a league championship,” Powell said.

Although San Jacinto lost to West Valley, the Mustangs were defeated by Citrus Hill last Friday. The loss tied the Tigers’ and the Mustangs’ league records.
